Time Attack ST170 - Few new pics 24/06
#281
now the finished article
All the smoothing bar one has been done to keep the line of the dash so the prfile is curved making it seem as though there was never a vent hole there. One has been left flat near the cage gole for switch locations.
Hope you like what ive done Will, must admit ive really enjoyed working on this project and im pleased with the results. Thanks

Dash looks great. Heres a few pictures of how tight it is, sorry the pictures aren't very good.
The idea about being able to see the wastegates went well out of the window!
Something else to melt the slam panel! Although this one isn't actually as close, also you can see the turbo clearance here.
Theres the other wastegate

Popped down to Race-Tech yesterday to have a quick chat with Ricky and the lads about a few ideas we'd been bouncing around so took the opportunity to grab a few pictures while I was there!
As the car now looks:
Starting with the boost pipe stuff first - the end tanks of the cooler have been modified so that I can get away with a standard front bumper:
Boost pipe:
Boost pipe welded to the throttle body as we were concerned that a silicone wouldn't have enough 'bite'. To allow for engine movement the silicone hose join is about a foot away and there's another on the elbow out of the cooler:
As seen here;
And here:
Ricky wasn't lying when he said it was tight in there!
There is some clearance - but not a lot!
Downpipe is in place now and it runs under the engine to a V-Band, rest of the system is getting done this week hopefully:
They've even made my silencer box:
And my new 30 litre fuel tank:
This morning all my power steering and oil lines arrived from Earls:
Oh, and my front brake lines:
As the job list at Race Tech has grown, understandably so has the timescale to get it done right. At the same time, my hand in dates for all my final uni work have been brought forward two weeks... As such, a lot of prioritisation has been done and i'm seriously thinking about not entering the first round of Time Attack now as its literally 10 days before my uni deadlines. This is my final year of uni now so once it's done, I can channel my time and energy solely into the car but for now, I can't afford to compromise my future for the sake of 1 round!

Looking great mate. My mate Ben is working for Ricky now and was telling me about the work on your car.
And yeah, fuck the first round if it means missing out on uni work.

Hopefully it'll be Ben making me a new tunnel to clear the exhaust over the rollcage bar... when his hand heals

Ben's shit hot with the fab work, he did the new floors and tunnel for my Cortina.
And his hand wants to hurry up and heal as we're taking his Vtec powered Escort estate to Belgium in a few weeks!

Well, while Ricky and the lads finish off their stuff with the car, I figured i'd take the time to make some headway with the uni side of things...
Having drawn up the Jenvey inlet plenum in CAD:
I've been able to take a model of the internal volume for use in the CFD and engine simulation software:
And today I've been drawing the inlet and exhaust ports from the cylinder head - very time consuming even when working to a +/- 1mm tolerance!

So far i'm very happy with all the bits he's done for me
Because i'm running a twin scroll exhaust housing on the turbo, it effectively works like two housings, so each side requires its own wastegate.
It is possible to bring both wastegate take offs together with a divider in to a single large wastegate, but in this scenario, I think a single large wastegate would have actually been more of a problem to fit in!
