V8 dutton kit car dragster thing lol running again :)
well ive had a few attempts with my chevy v8 at building a car, ive always hit hurdles and just thrown the towel in.
i think i have now found the direction to go that i have the desire to see it through to the end as it wont need to be road legal.
i have started today and it fits :
dutton phaeton dragster
the engine fits a treat and theres tunnel room for the manual but im want an auto, i have a truck back axle that will fit in just need to weld the diff up.
this is to be my santa pod toy, the supra is going to be top speed and hopefully mlr 30 - 130 event car.

so removed axle from my chevy c10 truck chassis
i took the back of to find its a 9" open diff
so i commenced with the welding done both sides with a proper industrial 1mm wire welder
clean up and put rear cover on, i brimmed it with oil and run it up and down a few times as its been stood for years, i put hg450 final drive oil in i guess its around a 60 weight will do the job fine. i also just cut the handbrake cables no point in handbrake for a dragster.
and there she is hopefully get it in tmrw night, im gonna try and just drop rear of leaf spring, remove shock and just roll out and roll in new axle, fingers crossed it goes as easy as that

the planet gears wont last mate weld a nice big thickish plate in there so it becomes one big surface area ive broke a few diffs in road cars welded like that do it right do it once, even more so that you will be launching.
do it in stages as not too warp the bearing too bad as they do lock up from the heat if not when being welded hth

Looking good, only issue with any of those engines is that they need some extreme cooling.
The Vette I mentioned before has a radiator like you have in a house and that still gets a bit too warm tbh.
Get a nitrous kit and let it have it, has potential to be a very quick car ! If you get bored of that I know where there is a Dodge Dart for sale, ex 9 sec car, recently painted but has no engine or box, could be a nice little project for you as the guy isn't exactly rolling around in money at the minute

busy day today the back end went from this
to this
but she was sitting too low, so i lowered leaf springs again, then bolted up leaf springs and rolled axle underneath them, made some temporary u bolts just to get it mobile and vwalla
axle may be moved forward a bit im not sure, just dummy running at the moment til i get the new ramp, im chuffed though got a good bit done in 3 days, the engine and drivetrain is in loose which is a good start

ive welded 2 extra support bars in for the front of the suspension mount
ive completely stripped the interior right out, heater, wipers all thye loom ect ready for making the cage, i may buy a cheap second hand one and alter it to suit not sure yet.

the missus had a bufty today i thnik its come up extremely well considering all she had was some meguiars and wd40 lol
i altered the breather today and made the conversion plate to run the throttle cable to carb and that was it was out on site repairing machine today aswell so lost 4 hours there.
i have also decided im gonna make the roll cage out of box section, the whole car is made of box so im gonna stick with the boxxy theme lol

carb adaptor made for throttle linkage
fitted to card and made new mount welded 2 together and vwalla
water gauge adapted to manual cat gauge, breather altered and steering figured out so i just need 1 uj about half way down
and finally some numpty had fitted 4" pcd ford wheels to 3.75" pcd spitfire hubs casuing the studs to bend and break, ive ordered new studs and nuts, ebc pads and fitting kit and caliper reseal kit, so i stripped out and checked regreased left wheel bearing, stripped and cleaned caliper ready for new seals
sourced a custom high mount chrome alternator kit from usa along with a few other goodies
time for a rest now im fooked tbh had a non stop 6 days on it where time was available. hopefully getting ramp tmrw

well ive been super busy on it still
both headers are done, bit patchy but paint will hide a thousand sins, i hope lol
my cousin came over and helped out after college
steering all done and works perfect no play at all now
and finally done a trial cut and layin of the bonnet, not sure wether im gonna use it yet or not
brake calipers are rebuilt ready to go with ebc green pads, new wheel studs and nuts to go in. im now going to troll the interent for a battery box, front 300 lb springs and a radiator
