Escort Estate... mid-life crisis !!! *UPDATE*- More RUST !!!
Well, I've lurked on here for a month or so, and am totally in awe of some of you guys, and your dedication/determination to see these projects through, but seeing as I have made a start on the car, thought I could start a thread here for it. Pretty close to yet another birthday with yet another dreaded ZERO at the end, my 40th was pretty whacky and a good mid-life crisis was had really looking back at it all, hahahahahaha.....
Anyways in a "previous life" I used to be into "modded" cars but then gave it all up to start the house/children thing, now its seems I'm pretty much a Grandad too so the gap has been well and truly a long one !!!
Found myself a few weeks ago on EVILbay and before I knew what buttons I'd pressed I was on a train to London to collect this little offering from Uncle Henry...
as it appeared in its ebay ad...
complete with "CHOCOLATE" interior....YUMMMMYYYY !!I!
For a £397.00 car it drove surprisingly well on the near 200 mile journey home and to my surprise the rest of my clan decided it was a good buy (I had a soft spot for a combi/estate as I brought my firstborn home from hospital in one LOLOL)
Now this HAS to be a budget project and as I have ammassed quite a bit in my Paypal account it would be good to make some ebay/online purchases.
First thing was to remove some "go-faster" pinstripes and put my "plates" on !!!! ( the reg-transfer paperwork"I'm told" should be all done soon! (thank you DVLA for your unequalled efficiency !!!!)!! ) I felt more like it was mine now.
I won a pretty decent RST bonnet on ebay, pretty reasonable price of £35 AND it was less than 5 miles from me...miracles eh????
and of course being the totally patient/responsible/mature 47 year old that I am, it HAD to be fitted...NOW !!!... RIGHT NOW..!!!
Theres more to come yet, more ebay purchases, then we get MESSY with filler & paint..... bring it on....
Enjoy,
Charlie

dont we all know eh mate?.... "soft spots" have cost me dearly in the past so I shouldnt think this one will be any different..?
I know..I know but at £35 quid I couldnt really complain could I ??? ( they MIGHT get removed, but I've been looking at them for nearly a month now and I ...actually.. quite like them
I have a couple of ideas about the engine but not certain yet will probably see what happens to "just turn up" at the "right time-Righ money" hahahaha...
ha ..someone who is ALMOST local???.... well I havent planned too much except I've bought a big tin of GREEN paint !!!!
more soon,
Charlie

Onwards.....
well I purchased some "tatty" wheels off the bay, not too bad at £34 and local enough in Donny to collect !!!!, but they were well corroded and the tyres werent too good either,
heres the ebay piccy, nice that he took a piccy of the GOOD one eh???
local garage took the tyres off for me, then it was mini Da and lots of discs later.....
.. here they are covered in etching primer...
just a few coats of high-build to go now....with lots of rubbing down inbetween, and also EVERYONE is now moaning their stuff/bikes etc are covered in dust/overspray etc... welll TOUGH !!! its my turn to use the garage for a while hahahahahaha...
Then using the "miracle of ebay" yet again I bought some Gloss Anthracite paint along with thinners, activator, gunwash etc.... oh and I also got my old spraygun out after being stored for FIFTEEN YEARS, it was a bit of a sorry state.... but as its a budget build I had to service it and as you can see below its done a fine job!!!!
one wheel done!!!!!
Now (as if by magic!!!) theres 4 of them!!! Pretty pleased at my first attempts at spraying again for a looooong time ... I still need a couple more centre caps still though
Front bumper next... thrilling eh??????
Enjoy,,,

Thanks Guys, now the wheels are painted I have a tyre "dilema". I have got some Spax -30mm springs to drop the car a little and was wondering on tyre size, I know the most common to use on an escort running 15" wheels is 195 50 15 but I was wondering if 195 45 15 would look a little nicer, a bit lower sidewall or does anyone recommend a better size(narrower)?? than either of these two...
Thanks,
Charlie
Thanks,
Charlie

well , yet another ebay purchase, this time not local enough to collect , but delivery was included in price!!! RESULT
only an early spec but it was only £50 delivered so it will do for starters...
here it is being "de-trimmed", smoothed and primed....
and at this point I'll probably loose half the foillowers of this thread cos i know its either a "love it or hate" it colour.... Porsche GT3 RS Signal Green
a nice BIG tin of this was sourced on ebay too !!!!!
just to compound it nice & shiny now.....
Enjoy,
Charlie

Nice project. Good job on the wheels. Think I've got 2 90' spec bumpers and an 88 bumper lying around. Would have donated one for the cost of postage for you.
I'll be watching this...
that colour?!?!

Thanks for the "heads-up" guys, Stembo21 we are virtually neighbours I'm only in Winterton, would be good to meet-up/ swap ideas at some time maybe???
heres the bumper in todays rare sunshine!!! ( struggling with camera settings though--bloody modern contraptions!!!)
Hoping the black/green will work and heres some of my inspirational piccies...( credits obviously to the OP's..)
Probably go for the black roof or bonnet option, or BOTH bonnet & roof ?????
Started to work on ( abuse???) the rear bumper too..!!!
not a lot gonna get done now as mates boys are racing at Cadwell this weekend......
Enjoy,

ive got black bonnet vents and black roof on my cossie estate but i also had the front pillars painted aswell as it would have looked a bit odd with a straight line where the 2 colours meet at the top of the pillars
