Looks like I've got lots to do tomorrow. I went up today to do a bit more filler work and block down the high build but I think I might have a problem.....
I guide coated the one front wing which has had 3 good coats of primer and lightly blocked it down with 600wet and I got rub through down to the original black paint in 5 places and were fist sized but some slight guide was left in others. I know when the car was built the whole thing was coated in high build and then black top coat, but I don't think the lad guide coated it and block flatted it properly before the top coat, so the paint levels are all over the shop.
I had a feeling that would be the case so I machine orbital sanded it with 240 originally then 400wet blocked the car before primer and hoped this would be ok. I can hopefully try the rest of the car tomorrow and hope it's just some bad paint on the one wing I tired, otherwise I'll have to block it back flat then re prime it.

Another day onit today. I decided to block sand the car again with 400wet to see what I was up against. I don't think the fact that the panels are fibreglass is helping with the straightness.
Bollocks!
With that I re-primed the car with two full coats then put a guide on.
Then with 600 wet I very carefully removed the guide to reveal what low points were left.
So another good coat of primer all over and a light sand and we should be all straight.I want to make sure the prep work is spot on to give as good a finish as I can.
On the plus side my hard work is paying off. The areas of panel which are alls all primer grey are so, so smooth and straight.
I also cracked on with modifying the exhaust hole in the rear bumper. It's been cut too big and round and I prefer the standard hole with the flatter top.

Another day of primer, guide flat, find low sports, primer, guide flat, cheap wet and dry has deeply scratched the panels, filler primer, flat, primer, guide etc etc I don't think I'd ever get it totally flat as the fibreglass panels won't let me but it's very close.
Then I got bored of this routine so broke it up by sorting out the rear bumper.
Then threw a little primer on so I could see the shape better before final filling and sanding.
The shape still needs work as thats just what I imagine it should look like, but it looks a whole lot better than it did before (no pun intended)
Also won a dashboard Banana pod on eBay last night for Ł67!

I'm starting to wonder why I bothered going so far with it, but it will be worth it in the end when it's got paint on it. Sooner rather than later I hope.
I got some from the bodywork supplier which is really good stuff, again not cheap, but ran out of the grade I needed so switched to the pack of Halfords I had spare. Fucking stuff fell to bits as I was sanding and deeply scratched the primer

Not sure what to do with it now. I was up the workshop last night waiting for my brother to take a gearbox out when I found a full tin of matte black so I decided to slap it on the one sing to see what it looked like...
Its gone on really even and smooth, I did 4 coats about 2 foot from the panel so theres no spray lines through it and it does look ok. Does matt black mark up really easily though and is it going to look like an obvious replica if it's matt black?

Matt black looks good when fresh, however it looks terrible when dirty / weathered! There's a VW van at my work that was sprayed matt black about 6 months ago and it already looks awful. I think it would be a shame to get all that body work done to such a good standard then rattle can it.

Well my painter came to look at it today and he's taking it away a week Tuesday to start work on it. We are going to completely re prime it with a high build and re flat it. Seems a shame after all the prep work I put it, in can primers a little thin and he's confident we can improve it even more. Plus, as he said, the prep I've already done will help the finish this time round anyway and mean less labour time when we flat it off.
We've also decided to be a bit different to red and go for Frozen White with slightly more blue in it to make it real bright. It will look real nice being white with the baby blue subframes and yellow ARB's with anthricite Comps. Bit like this;

Managed to get hold of a genuine lower bumper grill, new windscreen trim, hockey sticks and some Mountune Peformance Yellow gel badges as well to break the white up.

Black will show up any tiny little ripples in the fibreglass panels unfortunately so is not an option, that's why we have decided on white. I prefer them in white rather than black anyway.

Got a little bit done yesterday, sorted out the tailgate. It had already been de wipered but the welding had slightly warped the panel so needed hammering flat and some filler
It's also amazing what matt black paint will hide. The boot lid wasnt exactly straight.

Was just going to run my Compomotives on it, but because they are 17's they will make the brakes look tiny and using them everyday on our roads I run the risk of bashing them, so yesterday I had a quick scout on eBay to see if I could find any bargains and came across these;
16x8 ET25 Escort Cosworth Speedline Course 8 spokes.

It should do, Glenn, they came with 16x8's as standard so will fill the arches as I have to space them slightly due to being ET25 and with the coilovers can play with the stance to get it sitting right. Otherwise, I'll just sell them on at profit
