Just to let you know, I've installed a mock up motor/trans and steering now.

Just got to start making the headers to wrap around the steering shaft.

Pics to follow once I can get my user name back!

I just have a problem getting my camera to work on the new PC.

Once it's sorted I'll get back up to date with it.

One mock up engine in position and looking rather lost.

As you can see I got it in without cutting anything and it's rather tight!

Gearbox mopounted using a TRUCK SHOP X member, wish I had noticed that it lined up with one hole, would have positioned the engine where I needed it and saved hours of fun!

Once I had it level side to side and front to rear I made some mounts up using some 40mm flat bar and some tube. Trouble was, once the engine was centeral the mounts are offset which threw me for a while.

Steering is a pain, it ocupies the same area as the headers, neither Block Huggers, Camaro or std ones would fit so aR$e is sorting me out with some stainless bends and I'm making my own.

Header flange in 6mm, I have the same but in 10mm, unfortunatly even thay need machining to clear a lump on the heads!

There you go, header building next!

Done some more this weekend.

1st step, removing the rear bumpstops. 9" grinder and a hammer saw that done.

Welded a nut to the inside chassis rail to screw the new bump stop into.

New and old bump stop

Next I made from 4mm plate a boxing rail for the kick up in the chassis

Then welded it all in ready for the grinder.

Next on the list will be rear shock mounts on the axel and chassis as well as a pair of airbags to raise the back during driving.

Better get on and order some new tube for the crossmembers.

Might even make a prop shaft loop too.

I can use airbags to raise the height on the suspension when I drive and dump it when parked.

Just set the pressure from inside the cab and jobs done.

http://rayvern.bigfathead.com/air.php

Full picture of the kit is there.

Excellent ride quality too, anti roll bar and decent shock are a must though!

Ah, I get it now, I couldn't quite see the use of "airbags" in suspension.

You're not going to link it all to your sounds are you

Just been having a quick play, shock mounts being made, x member tube ordered, so it's a quick jolly in to the exhaust headers.

Problem is the steering interfears with the exhaust, I've tried every set I can borrow and they are all crap, only choice is to make my own!

10mm flanges bought from www.popbrowns.co.uk made from stainless steel and modified slightly as they hit a screw in plug.

next I went to B&Q and got some 15mm copper pipe and some foam insulation - it just happens to be the same diameter as the header pipes!

aR$e got me a load of stainless bends and about 18ft of pipe (cheers mate!) and gave me a few pointers too!

I found an old cosworth bottom pulley was the same diameter as the bends so I used that to bend the pipe.

Once I had trial fitted the copper pipe I insulated it and tried it again.

Sweet!

I cut the bends on a chop saw and a band saw and TIG tacked them together.

And whey hey! she fits

All I have to do now is 7 more and the collectors!

Sorry for the huge delay ion updates, 'stuff's' been happening and I just couldn't be buggered withi it!

BUT...................

I've been tormenting myself with the headers and ended up with this-

They miss the steering , chassis don't drop too low either - I'm impressed!!

Once you 'see' how it's all working it's not too bad, it just ppissed me off for weeks and I had to walk away.

I also got round to mounting the rear air bags and antio roll bar (rover 420 - one use at least!)

Avo adjustable shocks.

Interior wise, I've repaired the seat base and sent the seat to be trimmed

Installed the air ride mounting plate and smoothed the dash where some bits had been mounted

Also made some steering column brackets from alloy

Just waiting on some bar to be cut to finish that off.

Pedals next I think.......405 master cylinder maybe.......oh and the other header......

sorry for the delay in posting, been busy.

Today the old girl actually made it outside on four wheels!!

air suspension all fitted, all working, headers all made, steering fitted and mounted. Dash/firewall welded up.

just some pics-

Air out and she sits on the floor!

Raised position - but still lower then standard

next for the chassis i'll go for a front anti roll bar, engine build also, front shock too.

I found these pictures from a little while ago (april)

I mocked up the front wing just to see how much trouble i'm in

loads I think! no truning on full drop.....

started to repair the rear wings

crap repair by previous owner-

one grinder later-

new metal-

thinking of making my own running boards too, the originals have no fitting tolerance, after all it's only a truck

think i'll fix that sometime
