suspension jig all done, now I need to have the box section at work cut down and drill some holes for the lower tubes.
Steering rack mounting jig. Should give me Jag geometry and decent ride quality.

Needed to remove the front leaf spring brackets and the shock mounts, both circled.
1951 technology meant there is no welds on the chassis and everything is riveted together. What a git to remove!!! Gring the head, chisel the rest off, drill the center and punch it out. Good job there was only 24 to do!
Also had to remove the gearbox X member and the pedals. This included 4 5/8 bolts that fought me every turn in the most auquard locations.
But in the end brute force and ignorance won.
Before;
After;
Next I have started to box the chassis with 4mm plate cut by a local firm.
And that's as far as I have got. Unfortunatly I am loosing use of the camera for 2 weeks and in that time I'm going to try and get the front X member built and installed as well as the mock up engine in place. That means there will be a bit of a jump in the build unless I can blag a camera.

Still got the camera Mrs forgot it.
I got the truck from a customer who did not have time to restore it. I was looking in the USA for one but they were silly money, this was much cheaper.

In the last two weeks I've done little appart from finish off the cross member.
I had the chassis boxed with 4mm plate going back under the cab. I figure if the boxing goes as far as the bask of the gearbox uj it should be fine.
Then I went back to the x-member and made the rack mounts and teh jig for them, all simple stuff and easy enough to make if you have a band saw.
Next I noticed that the x-member would not sit flush to the bottom of the chassis and the lower outer corner would foul the A arm. I cut a notch in the box section and profiled the ends and welded them over.
Then I mocked the memeber into the chassis and it fits spot on. the string shows the centerline of the wheels so I'll get a mate to check my work and then tack the member into place and start into the upper mounts.
Should be nice and strong as you can see the chassis sitting 20mm into the box section.

Cross member centered an dwelded in last night. No point showing a picture of my welding!
I'll get the upper mounts machined next, and move onto the engine while I wait. Hopefully I can get that bolted together before I start back onto the suspension.

front suspension now tacked into position and looking good!
now i need to get the air bag positioned right so it sits real close to the ground on max drop, unfortunatly the jack won't go down that far!
All mounts are unfinished and made from 4mm plate, they need boxing and shocks need mounting somewhere.
shows the top plate ready to go in, should be nice and strong too.
how it all goes together, plenty of room for the airbags. With some luck, i'll get it rolling this weekend so I can at least have a tidy up!
Need some Jag steering control arms now.
Already booked Novembers trip for more parts, bumper and tailgate this year. Orlando here I come.

Wheels Day next year?.....
Just been finishing off the airbag mounts so it's possible it'll roll soon.
Putting airbags onto the rear as well otherwise it'll drag its arse at 'normal' ride hieght.
