Ian, would you not fancy putting your engine in a kit car? You'd still get that Cossie coming on boost feeling but with a lot more go, as you'd have lost around 800kg!

Why dont you just persevere with the shell you have, my shell is far worse than yours, and i soo wish mine was as good as yours tbh. The chassis legs can be repaired easily enough, the floor pan isnt that bad, considering its 25 years old. My car has the same plus a rusty tunnel, a rear quarter i can stick my hand through, a rear panel that is crumbling away, and splits in the metal everywhere. Just get a good welder and get to work, the panels are easily collected, then when you look back once your finished you will be so pleased you did it. just take a look at my thread and you will see how bad it is in comparison. And you have to remember that most sierras' that age will be that bad anyway. But hey, thats my 2 pence worth.

Just get it welded up.The only sierras that havent seen a welder are the ones that dont get driven and havent been used.

Well the old crock of shit has seen a little more of my time, in the shape of a wire wheel on the grinder. I wanted to clean the floor up to see what lurks under all the oil and sealer, just out of curiosity more than anything else.

Smiler, my n/s chassis leg is beyond economical repair mate as the beam mount is a zero point and needs to be in the exact right place otherwise it'll not drive right. It will be easier and more beneficial to the car if I replace the legs on the jig rather than repair them.

Anyway some pictographs of my floor as Ive started to clean it up.....

Mainly just the back end to clean up now but I ran out of poly discs so thats as far as I've got up to now.....

Its not really that bad is it Ian, get some panels together and start it in one corner and work your way round the car, once you get a tiny but done and welded up you'll look back and think "yeah this is coming on" knowing the car will be rot free, ive seen worse as i expect you have.

Cheers Jay, just plodding on

Andy Im still going with it for now unless I get offered a mint shell for next to nowt

Paul, nah its not that bad really I suppose. Im just being a massive fanny with it and like you say once I start seeing progress Ill sharp get into it and Ill know that theres no rot in it once its done. Thats my only concern with buying another shell, sealer/stonechip can hide lots!!

Its a lot of work mate but if needs must then it'll have to be done. I can do it all myself so its only materials and time that it will cost me.

Stick at it mate. It might have been a shock finding the rot, but IMO, there will have been cars on here 10 times worse than that repaired. You can see the good metal around the rust, so like you say its just time etc. Id get them chassis legs ordered from motomobil and the rest is just cosmetic. Sure you will make it mint again in no time

I had my old V8 Discovery advertised a couple of times and had nothing but timewasters till a chap came along and offered me a swap for his 2wd Moonstone Cossie rolling shell. Now as the Disco was'nt doing anything I took a chance and did the swap and have ended up with this.....

The idea was to take the chance and hope the shell would be a good one to use to rob bits off to fix mine or reshell my car into this if it was good enough.

Sadly Im a massive fanny and I dont deem the shell good enough to use to do my car, its saveable but its just not as good a base as I want so I now have another full car of spare bits to clutter up my garage

Sorry for being a vulture but I'm after some grey door cards just like the ones on your 'new' shell.

What have you done with the original shell?

Forget that I have re-read it and see you have both shells

What about James shell Ian, it's all done underneath and if it's the colour putting you off repaint the underside and bay/boot etc yourself and get the outside blown over ?
