Some more pics from the last couple of days ive had off to play with the Escort. Finished off both floorpans and gave most of the underneath a coat in stone chip.
The front wing was a nightmare to remove because a previous owner has smoothed off parts of the engine bay and I couldnt find the spot welds easily.
A parcel turned up this week and had this in it, not rotten whatsoever, proper pleased with it!
Been cleaning some bits and pieces up when ive got fed up of cutting and welding.
Welding up a mates Corrado VR6 tomorrow so maybe get some more work done in the afternoon and then again Sunday.

Funny you say that Steve, was just thinking that once its solid then I need to clean-up all the lower arms, tank, shock etc before I can get it rolling again. Cannot wait for it to be back on its wheels again!

Looks like a fair bit of work that mate, did you get new stem seals? never seen the new ones you had before all the ones ive ever done on the CVHs are with the steel plate. I never realised that you were expecting steel crank and rods in that engine (no one had told me what was going on) you could of whipped the sump off at my garage if i had known. Still the head looks like its been WELL ported out, worth it for that and the pistons i suppose. Are you doing the body repairs and paintwork yourself? keep up the good work

Yeah the advert had said that it had a steel crank and rods, but never mind, the bottom end has been balanced nicely and I'm not looking for huge power outputs. Just an engine that is safe and reliable to run a good level of boost. Not that CVH's are safe and reliable, but you get the idea!
The bodywork is being done by me, spraying will be done by myself aswell. Using old wagon booth at work. No where near that stage yet anyway, just tackling the massive amount of rust that it has picked up over 23 years!
Is your Saphy on the road yet? Bet it pulls like a train!

I'm trying to keep it looking as standard as possible, with some hidden goodies.
If I was gonna change the engine I would maybe go ZVH, so it has the same rocker cover etc, but then I'm not a massive fan of the engine. Cant get my head round why you would want 8v over 16v DOHC??

Been a long time with no update but I have been doing little bits and pieces, but over the last week ive got my finger out.
Finally got the car back up the right way, been a long time since I have seen the roof ha ha.
Battery tray has been replaced previously but had to weld in a new fuse box panel which was fun and had really good access
First base coat down, waiting for it to dry and then flat back for second coat.
I seem to be missing a few pictures from my camera/phone so there will be a few more tomorrow.
Got a few nice bits and pieces that should be here tomorrow.

Hey mate, long time! Still off shore? I know how you feel about the fezzy, feels like I met an old friend when I started working on this again.
By any chance you got any RS bits left? More specific, some steering rack brackets that attach to the bulkhead?

Cant believe I haven't updated this since August last year! Unfortunately work has been stealing all my spare time.
Anyway, started working back on the car whenever I can, so here is some long overdue updates.
Engine bay is looking a bit more presentable.
Dragged out two wiring looms I have, the idea is to repair one of the two. I really hate wiring.
I've started putting some parts back together which is a refreshing change. Some brake parts.
Bought a full new set of Koni suspension. I've also had the front and rear roll bars powdercoated yellow to match. The mounting plates are graphite grey. Also started using some of the new polyurethane mounts.
Ive decided on Cossie front and rear discs/calipers and Goodridge hoses all round I know people say its total overkill for an ERST but I think they look a lot nicer and fill the wheels better.
Started assembling the rears. Tie bars are also powdercoated.
I didn't like the idea of using normal hex head bolts and grinding them down, so I opted to have the brackets countersunk.
Bought a Wilwood bias valve, havent fitted it yet as I am still deciding where I want to place it.
I dug out my Servo and Master Cylinder from my old mk6 GTi. I cut and welded in new brackets to fit the original mk4 mounting holes. I will eventually replace the Master Cylinder once I have plumbed in the copper hoses.
Fitted, minus the brake bar.
Couple of other new bits and pieces just to make the assembly a tad nicer. The rears also have new bearings and races.
Car how it stands now. Still on axle stands for now as I am having a nightmare with the rear trailing arms, will come to that later.
Now, I picked up two engine mount brackets and the lower arms from the powdercoaters. Unfortunately, part of the old bush was still attached (my fault). So I had to have them shot blasted again to press the metal bush out. Probably drop the arms back off tomorrow to be coated for the second time. Was not happy at the time.
Rocker cover and crossover nicely powdercoated. I managed to find new rubber bushes to the crossover too.
The rest of the time has been spent tidying up areas like the tops of the sills, next up are the rear arches and the shell is near enough ready to paint.
Back to how you will usually find it!
Cheers for looking! Comments, advice, gripes etc are always welcome!

Been off all week, so amongst catching up with college crap I managed to get a few days work in.
Started off with the arches, old rotten f*ckers off and new ones on.
Put a front bumper on for a bit of a morale boost.
Then the job I've been dreading, inner arches. One side was really bad and the other only needed an inch of rot taking off.
Liberal coating of seam sealer as I removed so much to check for more holes.
Couple of coats of underseal and now you wouldnt know it had any work done.
So, a very long overdue start of putting things back on. I have been locking forward to this for so long.
Had my arms and tie bars powder coated silver. New Koni shocks and floflex bushes.
Made a start on putting the head back on my engine too.
Bought a Mocal take off plate to replace the old on and to go with the 13 row Mocal cooler I bought also.
Gearbox sat waiting. All new seals and painted up. The gearbox cradle was also powder coated and two new mounts fitted.
This is where my phone died so had nothing to take photos with. But the car now has an engine once again and also has all the front suspensions fitted. Will get some pictures next time I'm working on it again.
Cheers for looking!
