My Winter Engine Rebuild!
Well my Saff had been making some nasty rattling noises from cold as of late last year, and with 95k on the clock, I think it's time for a rebuild.
My first thoughts were to have the car off the road for 3-6 weeks to have the rebuild done by myself, but then I had second thoughts as I didn't want to be rushed.
Therefore I bought a fully rebuilt engine from Lee R who uses this forum!
Here are pics from when I changed my engine for Lee's old one:
Old engine coming out:
New engine going in:
I started this on a Saturday morning, and had it up and running by the next day, so by Sunday lunchtime.
A friend of mine text me about 1 or 2ish and said 'hi hows it going? got it up and running yet? lol'
After that sarky text I had the pleasure of texting him back with 'yes mate just been running for the last 5 mins!'
So this weekend I've been stripping down the old engine:
We had to lift it onto the engine stand, which was a lot harder than it looks in the pictures!!
Finally we managed it:
We then started stripping it down:
Got the head off!
As we'd been told, the top end had all been fully rebuilt!
Then the block:
Started taking bits off and stripping it, and before you know you've turned it upside down and the sump is off!
Undone all of the big ends:
Got the pistons out:
Then the crank:
And once we'd finished:
After inspection as we went along we found that oil had been burning past the pistons, and the #4 big end shell was down to the bronze!
The crank is being sent off wednesday for a regrind/polish!
There will no more updates for a few weeks as the block is being sent off early next week for a rebore!
Thanks for reading it, I will update when I get more info/pics, I am also working long shifts in the next few weeks too, but I will try!
Cheers,
Charlie

Hi guys, we all know I finished this build quite a while ago now. Had it live mapped by Karl@NMS ect ect
But just found the few pics I took when I built it back up.
Didn't take many though as I just wanted to get on with it
Spot the wire ringing
Best thing I done to the engine IMO
Also just mashed my 2nd gearbox, luckily I've got my full bernie rebuild one back, also waiting on an Alcon 6 Paddle Clutch from Mike Rainbird, then hope to change the box again this weekend with James helping me.
Opinions please guys?
Also got a tad more bling since the last set of pics:
Karl reckons it's a good 350bhp and 350 ft/lb torque, give or take 5 each way.
Boosts upto 1.9BAR (27.55psi) upto 5000 rpm, then drops to 23-24psi for 6000rpm, and then tails to (22psi) for the limiter to 7250rpm.
He was also very pleased, and seemed almost shocked at how good the engine was. Also pleasantly suprised that I had the block wire rung I think.
Regards,
Charlie.

I've now fitted my Bernie box and Alcon 6 Paddle Clutch, so big thankyou to Bernie and Mike Rainbird
Hopefully it won't cost me any more money for a while now
But then it is a Cosworth

Cheers Adam, gutted for you having to break the S2, looked great at National Day
It was at my Mum's garage I done all the engine work!
I leave all of that sort of thing to my brother, as he lives there, just he rarely does do it
