Ive decided to go with an LPG conversion on the car, it will suit me ideal as i like taking it out on the weekends, the car is there to be used and most of the places i go are 30 miles away, so the gas is cheap to cruise about on, whilst still having the option of switching it to petrol if i fancy a tear up! A freind has given me an lpg tank he found in a scrapyard (they cant get rid of them as the gas is hazardous!) and i conveiniently won a vapouriser and injectors off eBay. the kit is off a 4.7 litre jeep so will supply ample gas for my application! i will just utilise six of the eight injectors, and use a dual map with my ecu to run them. Anyway, this is where i am now...

Ive always thought of LPG as a bit of a gimmic, but im willing to give it a try as its not going to cost much to fit. I want to use the car and i think this will make it viable.

Just make sure to use the correct orientation for the vapouriser, don't do a vauxhall, they installed hundreds of kits with the incorrect orientation so everytime you accelerated hard it leaned out, everytime you braked hard it went super rich, due to the gravity influence on the diaphragms in the vapouriser.
You can get modded parts for the vapourisers, essentially changing the spring rate for increased flow.

the tank is in and the filler is fitted , mounted it on the rear towing eye so as not to damage any bodywork, ive also ran the pipe from the back to the front. So all the work to be done now is under the bonnet.

hello mate, awesome build and well done on doing it yourself.

When i was taxi'ing a few years ago alot of cars were running lpg and a few blew engines due to extra heat using the gas, so i would increase the rad size

Oh and i also put £20 of gas in today, this got me 25 litres! , doing more to this conversion this weekend so i will update with more pics as i go. Im planning on running the LPG on a switch, with an AMAL valve also, so on gas it will run low boost, and on petrol it will run high boost.

Right, got the vapouriser fitted this weekend. Its job is to turn liquid gas at about 200 psi into a gas at atmospheric temperature and a sensible pressure (about normal fuel pressure, 3 bar or so) it still needs its water pipes connected (they stop it from freezing up, as vapourising gas is how a freezer works! and the whole thing would freeze up without hot water flowing through it! at least this will help keep coolant temps down eh ) here is a few pics of it installed.

My plan is to have a "momentary" switch on the dash to turn on the lpg with a latching relay. then if i was to key off the reylay would drop out and so turn off the gas, im also going to use a pressure switch to drop the gas out as soon as the car makes more than say 3 psi boost. Brilliant, as soon as it comes on boost it drops onto petrol and stays on petrol until i push the switch again! no fannying about if you put the foot down, or switch the car off. here is the switch, off of a fiat TDI.

Hi, the injectors are std bosch end feeds and so are a direct replacement. Im actually running a KMS ecu, but there are different types of megasquirt available, not for different powr applications just newer with more outputs, even the most basic MS ecu will run 12 cylinders, at any power level it just wont have loads of outputs/built in VR cleansing cuircuit etc.

Right, got the car running on gas last night, still need to finish it off and tune it a bit, ill get some finished pics up when its totally finished. I will however post the way i have wired the gas injectors for all those who have expressed an intrest. Really simple, power the injectors live off of the same live as the petrol ones (usually off the fuel pump circuit) and all you do is use a 5 pin relay to "flip flop" between petrol and gas to the ecu. My injectors are all batched together, but if your car is sequencial you would just need more relays to keep the earth lines seperate.

a real cossie?

why you got a datsun in your avatar pal?

you should buy a xu10 engined 205 ( gti6) and get a decomp plate, and turbo it with a gt2871rs and dp engineering manifold and downpipe, 350-370 bhp on standard internals, awesome handling with 7500 rpm and plenty of torque, fuck yes
