Default Escort GTi Rust

Hey everyone,
Been noticing some rust forming on my rear arches, so took it to a bodyshop to get a quote on having both rears cut, new ones welded and then re-painted. Quote i got was £746.30, i've never had anything like this done before so was just wondering if that is about the right sort of price?
Cheers in advance
Jay

dependson your longterm views too, if the car is spanking mint and you want to keep it forever then ok its gottta be costly but if its the bottom section of the arch (if 5 door) and you see it as just a car then grind it back filler it up and paint it from a can (depending what colour)

i worked in a ford bodyshop and they would want a grand but i know people who would do just as good a job for £200 all in

im fixing up an escort gti for my mum and heres are goin the same way (5 dr bottom bit) ill be leaving it but if i wanted to tidy that up i'd clean then fill then paint it from a can, its state blue and easy to hide or could black that section, i could cut and weld it but its a 600 car so what bother
the chassis rails have been welded loads this year but i do like welding, the rest of the car is pretty tidy tho

Car is in great shape apart from the arches, 74k on the clock, looking a little faded now but that's only because i havn't cleaned/polished it for a while. It's a red 5 dr and the rust is at the bottom in the centre of the arch.

sounds like new quarters they have priced you up on and to be completly honest if your keeping it then thats the only way to keep the rust away. If your not then take it to a smaller place and get them to weld in new arches but the difference between the two on quality will reflect on the gulf on the price you will get. also if your car is radiant red the new quarters will stick out like a sore thumb due to new unfaded paint to your old faded paint

I was told the paintwork would be done properly so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb and you wouldn't noticed the difference unless you got up close..

if thats the case then they will be blending the rear doors and if so is a good price as it will carry a minimum 2 year anti corrosion warranty with it

stickwith it mate! is the rut THAT bad or just a spot? if notgrindor cut that spot and weld another bit. and just fill it with hard metal. aslong as your not applying hardmetal on the rust it isnt a problem mate.

Yes welcome i got the same problem as yourself but mine are a bit worse than yours it sound i got quoted £350 from a guy buy me but not sure what it entails ill be talking more with him next week. The conversation went like "can you sort the arches on my 5 door" he said "god another one ok yeah 350" lol. So the price may go up the average ive been quoted was £600 at a few places.
