Default Belgian escort MK3

Hi all, I'm Herman Kenens and I'm from belgium (limburg).
When I was 16 years old I bought a ford escort mk3 1.3 laser, my first intentions were modding my car rat-style but then a teacher at my school told me he had a XR3i engine up for sale , then i decided i wanted is to have a racey look from back in the days (old skool rims , xr3i bumperlip ...) . I bought it immediately and started on swapping the engine . Then i bought 2 dell'orto carburetors because the injection system caused a lot of trouble , wouldn't run the way I wanted it to . Since the carburetors needed revision I just decided to pull the engine back out for some more tuning . Plans for now are another camshaft , lighter flywheel , race clutch , adjustable pulley , bigger and better brakes and since the car only had 4 gears I found a gearbox from a ford fiesta XR2i 5 gear

Some pics of the build so far :

Here I'm swapping the 1300cc engine to the 1600cc xr3i

In the time I painted my taillights and bought rims.

Some pic's wen the first works are done..

Then i bought me some 40mm Dell'orto dhla carburettors.

And now im pulling the engine back out

PS : Does anybody know some good webshops for ford-parts ?
And wich ford brakes would be compitable?

Tips and comments are very welcome since I'm not to experienced but i really want to pull this off in the right and good way . Maybe in the future visit some trackdays , see how it runs when its finished . But that's far ahead , I still have a lot to learn
greets

sierra cosworth front brakes with standard cosworth discs will fit herman , and are a very good budget upgrade ,

i may know of a mk 3 rs 16i front splitter ( bumper lip as you call it ) , that would finish the front off prefectly ,

looks a great base to start with . good luck with it ,

herman , double checked with a mate , for you brakes you need ,

set of 4x4 cosworth brake calipers ( escort or the sapphire )

set of 2wd sierra brake discs ( sierra cosworth 3 door )

some 2 mm washers ,

the washers go between the hub face and the brake caliper to space it correctly for the disc ,

very simple installation just like fitting the standard setup ,

plenty of stopping power , and i think the 3 door discs are 300mm,

hope this helps, if you struggle to find what you need over there drop me a line ill source you some over here

Herman,

Is that car road legal?
The belgian law doesn't allow a lot of changes on a car, how did you managed it?

That's the reason stopping me of customizing my car.

Hello Herman,

Nice Escort MK3 you own..
It's a sleeper on carbs, and nice sound...

I'm building a MK3 as well, based on a 1.1.
It has a XR3i engine now with a fastroad Kent Cam and adjustable cam pulley.
I lowered it with 30mm Eibach, and Koni adjustable shocks.
The interior has Recaro front seats, I may get rid of the back seat.
I bought some RSi-rims, and a pair of Scorpio Cossy calipers with 282mm 3-door Cossy discs...

I'm looking for a mk 3 rs 16i front splitter or S1 spoiler package.
But I think with the S1 spoiler package, the sleeper image is gone...

Keep us posted on your progress,mate...

Ik kom uit Holland...

welcome to passionford pal looks a good start you have made, i love them wheels you have, cossie 4 pots will fit and a 285mm disc, or 4x4 calipers i believe are easier to addapt and quite a cheap effective setup, keep up the hard work

thanx all ,

@ beefy : can you keep me informed of which braking parts might be available for my mk3. Offers in belgium are not so frequent. Also i'm interested in the front splitter of a rs1600i.

@ marchano : you have to homologate the vehicle at customs

@ ROBnoTOP : as you discribe your vehicle i'm sure i will love your ride

@ bythomson : thanx, i allready thought so
