Was tempting to take it along for the little lunchtime skid session, but as I was covering the event for Fast Ford there's little time for playtime!

The Saph is my new addition

A good weekend overall, just made a mistake in using my absolute best super grippy tyres for the twinning! Had far too much grip for my measly 200BHP so couldn't drive half as well as I had in practice and qualifying. Still managed to knock out Mark Lappage in the top 16 battle and get through to meet Christian Lewis for the top 8.
I knew I could have went much further, but qualifying 2nd and getting into the top 8 is still a massive improvement from Donnington and Norfolk where I didn't even qualify!

A little video of my qualifying runs from the BDC @ Teesside which earned me second highest qualifying position in class.

http://youtu.be/RDmcFLkI4Lc

Don't have any vids of the twinning, but here's a few photos...

It might look cool, and I held it together, but this moment of going too fast and getting '2 wheels off' cost me the top 8 battle.
Still came in 5th place overall though!

Also there's a 6 page Fast Ford feature out now featuring my drift exploits (mostly based around getting the BDC licence)

If you want to drift, don't use a standard Cossie diff. You only need to see the difference between me drifting this car with a welder and then seeing me trying to drift my Cossie with a standard worn out LSD. Very unpredictable and they open up way too easily.
A properly rebuilt one, a plated diff or preferably a welder is much better.

Gearbox wise, type 9 ain't so good but lots use them. Next best is RWD hybrid MT75. Then the likes of a T5 or MJ Racing converted Getrag Jag box.

Yeah a welded diff is by far the best option for drift use. Totally fine on the road too, but you do get some hopping and skipping from the wheels on tight manoeuvres.
Getrag conversion is about a grand

oh right cool does the rear tyres ware out quickly as it has a welded diff and i have koni suspention on my car with some lowering springs on will they be ok or will i need different suspention
and with gearbox would a t5 be cheaper to use? also iv heard on fsoc that this convertion suffers from eating starter motors is this true ?

Welded diff won't wear out tyres when driving normally any quicker than usual.
When you start skidding properly you'll go through shitloads though But most people use free cast offs from garages anyway at practice days.

Your suspension sounds fine for starting out. Also don't know of any hassle with starter motors.

RWD MT75 is the best bet for a 24v Sierra. Get yourself a box builder (I know one up here if you're stuck). A few options for which bits to combine....

1. 2.0 DOHC & 2.9 V6 4x4
2. Scorpio/Granada TD & 2.9 V6 4x4

TD box is the better option but they are harder to find. Building the hybrid costs between £100-£250 depending on how good a deal you can get.

Crazy day at Knockhill today. Seriously sucked all though practice (mostly due to some bad geometry mods the car got yesterday) but then managed to hold it together in qualifying and ended up placed 3rd!

Tomorrow's times for my class:
Practice - 11:45
Top 8 battles - 14:00

Enjoyed my practice sessions on Duffus lots today. First time ever drifting what is renowned as the most difficult section in the UK drift scene. Worked my way through various approaches, both over and under-cooking sections until I nailed it at the end.

Shame that later my bloody car had a massive loom melting electrical issue and almost went on fire at the start line of the top 8 battles! Gutted wasn't the word! Especially after qualifying 3rd too......

Yeah things would be a lot easier with more power, but it is enough... and ragging every ounce of power out at all times is a lot of fun!

Hey Ade. I take it the car has finally gone? Im so proud of you and your little old Sierra. Surely competitors must think that they would of walked all over you but you and your car gave them a good scaring at some points.
Was reading though FastFord And ClassicFord and totally forgot you had the Capri. Cant wait to see you drive that in anger. Whats the news on it? Is the x-pac on yet? Im sure as well that this time as the car is being built from sratch, you wont have the same problems as the Sierra did.

Still got the Sierra! I had it out for one last blast the other week.... it'll be up for sale very soon now.
Freshly MOT'd and now just needs a wheel swap and some up to date pix for the ad'.
£3000 buys it

Here it is doing drift taxi duties for 7 hours solid! A tank and a half of fuel used over 50 paid runs and plenty more just for the hell of it!

Progress on the Capri is happening.... Ridiculously mammoth task building a car from the ground up, but it will all come together!

No drift demos at all this year!

Will be doing a session in my Cossie..... but no real drifting, mainly as ropey old Ford LSDs are useless!
