Sorry ive been slow on the progress, have been away for over a week or so and am flat out with business commitments.
(ignore some pics, they may appear random, but are more reference pictures for me, so ignore them)
Im now at a stage where all the components are ready for sandblasting and powdercoating
The trike is no more (rip )
It may not look like ive done that much but anyone whos done this knows how time consuming this part is.
Ball joints, bush removal and hub/wheel bearing splitting is probably my most hated job in a restoration. It involves a lot of effort and knuckle scraping and at the end of the day it looks like youve done sod all
All the ball joints are split and the geargator boots, so were in need of replacing anyway
struts striped

Engine bay almost bare now, just sorting out loom
Some of the bushes and wheel bearings were in very tight so I had to ask my old man for a hand as hes got a lovley hydraylic press.
Did the job a treat, there was no way they would have come out in situ.
Rear arms all stripped
front wheel bearings/hubs split
Items are boxed to keep the "sided and the shaft couplings in "pairs"
The bastard rear trailing arm bushes, they took some effort
The remains of the wheel bearings. They were all in ok condition, the rear near side was a bit worn and dry sounding.
All remaining parts were dropped off at the sandblasters.
Cant wait to pick them up, all that naked metal and no more grease
I should think it will be a few days untill next update.
Got a lot lot lot of floor pan scraping to do

hi Lee
let me first just say i have looked through many of your threads and enjoyed them, i tend not to comment much on here.
It is great to see u back on here doing your stuff as your threads are always very informative, well photographed and detailed, i think you are an absolute credit to people and give enthusiasm to people on here and the confidence to have a go yourself.
I have done a bit of resto work to my own car but have a limited amout of equipment to reach the standards of your work, i still have a lot to do but looking at your work makes me want to get out there and do a bit more.
Please keep up the good work as i certainly enjoy the reading, and im sure after you have finished this lovely 3dr it will be worth a considerable amount more .
cheers
Paul

I do actually have limited tools and space, and any "knowledge" () is really self tought. I'd have to spend Ł10k to get the tools and equipment id like, but some how I still manage to get buy with what I have.
Which resto threads did you read:
71 beetle
70 beetle
49 beetle
67 beetle
72 camper
71 Aston martin DBS
85 Series one turbo
96 Landrover Defender 2.5 turbo
93 Escort cosworth
68 Mk1 escort Mexico rep
92 Golf MK2 Gti with VR6
83 Rs1600i / 83 Rs16i post fire.
I also have another very exciting project in the pipe line involving an engine conversion (which I think may be 1st in the UK?), but have decided to leave this one dormant untill the new year. Also a Triumph 2000, crayford cortina, e type jag and a lotus cortina are floating around, but again ive got enough on at the mo As I simply dont have time with the Rsi, 67 bug and 3door and all my business commitments.
Glad you liked the read tho, the 3 door is going really well, its actually a very easy car to work on.

This is buy far my favorite buy miles

VR6 sold at beginning of the year, was great fun! only sold it for Ł3500, was a bargin!
Just an old sony digital, nothing expensive. Ive learnt a lot over the years, just buy using certain light and angles you can get a great shot on most cameras.

Hi Lee
I was going to ask for links on them all but i will check through and see if i can find them. Like yourself i manage to get by with the tools i have but i dont posses a compressor any spray or air tools engine hoists etc , just basic tools a trolley jack and a little knowledge from working on stuff over the years.
The 3 dr is of particular interest to me as i also have a 3dr which i have owned for the last 12yrs and im am still working on at present when funds will allow. there are still several parts i need to address but are all expensive so they will have to wait.
I have a general interest for all resto work and it is amazing what is achieved in little garages all over the place and amazing how talented people like yourself really are.
Keep up the good work and keep me posted.
Ps What colour are you doing the underside of the 3dr are you going with original dove grey or are you going down the moonstone route ?
Cheers

Moonstone
Take a look at this lot...naked metal
loading up the truck to visit powdercoaters
At the powdercoaters, dividing the parts in to colour groups.
Need to get my arse into gear and get the underside of the car done now

looking great there Lee
Sorry to say this but im sure the petrol tank off the 3dr has a plastic swirl pot and will melt if powder coated i have read this on a thread before, and obviously renders the tank useless.
I hope this helps mate.
I hope this is not read in the wrong way and you take offence.
cheers

Spending a whole day on her tommrow, so should have a few.
Its taking an age to get the bloody stuff of. The whole car has been covered in a very think anti stone chip. 1/4" thick, and very very rubbery!
Getting there tho.
So sorry people for the lack of progress, I have been busy, just nothing worth taking a pic of yet.

Thanks folks
Lee cheers, you have a very sharp eye lol with regard to the tank, its a bit of wayoil that i sprayed on the upper part of the tank as i noticed when the tank came off there was a lot of crud that was sitting on the top edge.
I was going to wipe off the bit you can see but i thought it would be better to protect.
Im really looking forward to the next set of pics and update as it is looking fantastic so far and once all the parts are powder coated its going to be a big progression in this resto.
Also looking forward to seeing the flloorpan and how you tackle it with your spray kit etc should come out amazing then i have to come and hijack you to do the same to mine lol
Cheers

As for the restos, its been a hobby for 18 years, and will always be a hobby. Bit like my building work, that to me is also a hobby really. I love going to work
But yes, restos are now a sideline
Just been contacted buy some one with a mk2 cortina and some one with a 69 beetle. Also an old transit and an old landrover looming in the back round for other people. Hence why the Rs16i is for sale as I have no room or time left , and also god knows when my 67 beetle will hit the road. havnt touched it for a month and a half
