Default 2wd Saph

After being off the road for nearly two years!!!!! I have now started to do something with it. The reason it came off the road was down to an engine issue (namely the turbo) and various electrical issues. I'm also not happy with the paint as this has various issues with it, amoungst these is rust on the rear arches.

As it currently stands;

The first thing I decided to sort was my trickle charger, the cable that came with it is far to short and I have to keep putting the Sierra in front of the garage, which causes us problems with turing and parking!!!!

Picked this little lot up off ebay, im still awaiting the arrival of the sleeveing;

Got one of the plugs next to the tow eye so it is out of the way and solidly mounted;

I just need to run the wiring to the battery and then its good to go, I can then also extend the cable for the charger so I can charge the car where its sat now

Next on the list is to sort the central door locking as one of them appears to be sticking, I also need to get both back wheels looked at, one seems to have a slow puncture and the other needs to valve looking at.

Plan is to replace all the wiring a section at a time, going to sort the doors first as my central locking is being a pain. I also need to weld in some new rear arches (will get pictures of the current arches this weekend), I also want to smooth the engine bay theres far to many holes in there, and get a re-spray I'm currently thinking of going pure white, this time I'm not spraying it on the drive I'll get someone else to do it for me.

I also need to get a T34 and an RS500 cooler and I think I have a sticking valve so I need to take a look at that.

Its going to be a long project.

Type in Anderson Plug on eBay theres loads there, it took me ages to find these, Demon Tweeks also do them for Ł25 per pair, much cheaper on eBay.

Got some pics of my rust problem and did a bit more to my plug, please excuse the uality of the photos I couldn/t be bothered to set up the DSLR so I used my cheapo 3MP camera that doesn't focus very well!!!

Heres the passenger rear wing;

I'm going to cut this out and weld new bits in, I repaired this with filler a few years back when I swapped everything over from my old Saph. I've learnt to weld since then

Drivers side rear wing;

I forgot to rotate this before uploading will do the same to this as the passenger side, once I've repaired these and smoothed the bay out I can sort out a respray as up close the paint is a mess.

Did a bit more work on my plug today;

Cables soldered on

Filled the holes with silicon sealent to help prevent water getting in.

I couldn't go any further with this as at this stage I discovered I'd brought the wrong size sleeving, so I've had to order some more now!!!!!!

Should make massive inroads next weekend as I'm trying to book next Friday off, I'm hoping to get the skirts off, if the weathers bad I may look at making a bracket for my coil pack.

Are you keeping with the colour-coded theme? I mean the door handles and stuff, I'm in two minds about it myself. I think it'd look good with the bump strips on, mind you it's not easy or cheap finding a good set these days.

Well, I wouldn't have gone out and bought them myself, but they're not that bad. I am certain though, the car would look much better with the black rubber bump strips back on the doors and wings

Not sure on the colour coding, thinking of getting some carbon fibre

I brought the wheels new years ago when I had a 1.8 Saph with Combat kit and EVO 6 spoiler this saph also had my AVO's on and my big brakes so it served it purpose.

They will be staying until the tyres are in need of replacement then Im thinking of getting some comps in either 17" or 18" format, and also wider to get a bigger contact patch

From what I can see yes, going to get the skirts off this week and check the sills as I had to repair them when I brought the shell so they probably need doing. Haven't got underneath it yet but I think its pretty solid.

Work is still commencing only very slowly!!!!!!!!

Still haven't got the sideskirts off but I havenow finished my charging cable, I have pics put they are on my Motorola Q9 and my iPhone and they aren't playing ball!!!!!

I moved on this weekend to relocating the coil pack as it was only ziptied to the inner wing, I had a bracked off off a CVH engine i'm scrapphin so I made up an alloy plate and mounted it near the ABS block, I just need to make a support piece now to stop it flapping about, currently its zip tied until I can find something suitable in the garage!!

I will also be making a carbon fibre or alloy plate to cover the piece of plastic at the back of the engine bay, I will then mount some clips on this so I can tidy up how the leads run.

I also had a guick look round the inner wings to see how many holes need to be filled, it appears I'm going to have my work cut out, wsa there really any need for all the holes!!!!!! I'll be enlisting the help of a mate to fill these as some are going to need metal cutting to fill the hole.

I was planning on making some progress this week in the evenings only I forgot about a work event Wednesday eve and I'm in Belgium all day Thursday and will then be shattered by Friday

Work has finally started again, work kind of got in the way along with an issue with both the Laguna and the Fiesta, the Fiesta still has some issues but they will be sorted once I discover what the cause is!!!
I had this week off work so got cracking on the Cossie, we cleared the garage out a couple of weeks ago and managed to squeeze the car in, it is seriously tight with little room to work round it. Most of my efforts at the moment are going to be in the engine bay, the front bumper and bonnet have been relocated to the greenhouse and the engine has been relocated to the shed.
My current plans are to smooth out the bay and relocated the wiring into the chassis rails as much as possible, I need to make a new loom anyway so this should be fairly straight forward.
Please excuse the pics I was using my cheap camera as I couldn’t be bothered to get the DSLR out, I may have to speak with Canon about a freebie while i’m in their head office next week.

Not sure, I'll have to investigate as if its too close now is the best time to move it before I weld up all the holes and respray the bay.

yeah you dont want the coil pack near anything else needs to be 12" away from the map sensor or you could get problems

C'mon Dave I thought it was almost done by now!!!!

Small update, work has been prgoressing very slowly!!!! All the wiring that was in the engine bay is now in the foot wells, I've also got two pairs of wheel dollys so I can move the car a bit easier, only due to us not having a smooth concrete floor they dont work too well. I've sorted the rear ones by laying some steel we have to fix our car trailer, I just need to get some fro the front ones now.

Work has also started on smoothing the engine bay, I managed to lay a couple of welds this morning and todays plan was to get a load more done this afternoon. Hit a small snag this afternoon when I caught my leg on the front of the car and twisted my knee so I'm now having to rest it as I can't put any weight on it, this afternoons plans are now scrapped and im stuck watching a load of rubbish on TV

More pics will be uploaded once I've sorted a camera out!!

I've now started to fill the holes in the inner wing, along with one of the seams. Im going to finsih these off with lead solder/filler, I'm just waiting for a kit to be delivered.

The pics aren't very good as they are from my iPhone.
