Project Tango - Fiesta ITB'd Track Car, Caged and Carbon'd
Hey guys, thought I would share my current project with you over here, quite a condensed version, full project is over on ZSOC.
I bought the car in December 2008 with the following spec:
Black Phase 1 ZS, 85k on shell, 5kish on new engine
Shawspeed SS4 Cams, Heavy duty valve springs and big end bolts on Phase 2 engine
Full Miltek system - 4-2-1, Decat and Cat-Back
300mm ST170 front conversion and Focus 255mm rear conversion
16" OZ Ultra Leggera's
Stripped interior including sound deadening removed
Fomex door cards
Cobra Monaco seats and Luke 3 Point Harnesses
Rear strut brace and harness bar
Area 6 Camber Adjustable lower arms
Full Powerflex bush kit
Spax PSX Suspension kit
And here's a few pics of it just after I got it:
My plans when I got the car were:
Plans for the future
> Re-scheme the colouring to a new theme
> Fit new seats (To be revealed)
> Overhaul interior including flocked dash, guages and maybe a cage
> Change wheels to a Motorsport 15" Wheel (required to clear the brakes)
> Further engine work - Live Map, raised rev limit and then looking at Throttle Bodies next year
> Transmission upgrade to LSD IB5 Box, Helix Clutch and lightened flywheel
> Carbon fibre

First mod was new lights:
Before
After
Usually everyone does it the other way, de-tango's and smoke's the lights, but personally I think TANGO is so much better.
Next up I decided to invest in some PROPER seats, sue cue some sexy Sparco seats:
Evo L for Passengers
Pro 2000 Carbon Fibre for me, these seats came up at a bargin price, and I'm so glad I bought them, they are so much more comfortable than my old Cobra Monacos.
I then wanted some proper harnesses to go with the seats, and after getting them, i could never go back to 2" straps, here's what I opted for:
3" TRS Magnum's in ORANGE, this was the start of the TANGO theme.
Anyways, over the next few weeks got them all in:

When I got the car, the tyres were SHAGGED, so after pricing the tyres up for 16" wheels, I decided to get new wheels instead, just so happened these came up at a bargin price:
Compomotive TH's in 15" flavour, really wanted Comps, as they wernt many wheels that would clear the 300mm brake conversion without modifying the calipers. So got them fitted with a set of Michelin Pilot Exaclto's and here they are:
In the meantime I added an Orange sunstrip, and debatable TOW stickers:
Next fitted an aftermarket limiter, and pre-mapped chip to raise the limit and run the cams better:

I then decided to re-spray the Comps, as they looked out of place on the car, brave move to rub down a set of 6 week old, limited edition wheels, but it was worth it:
I also sprayed the mirrors orange and tow eyes aswell, and lost the GASH orange sunstrip.
I then fitted an OMP wheel, as the standard one was horrible, and needed some dish in my life:
Before
After
Then cleaned under the "hood":
Then had it RR'd at RS Tuning in Leeds, pretty pleased with the outcome as it was still running a standard Ford map:
Also gave it a service before to make sure it was running sweet.

Next up added some more orange, handles and spoiler:
Changed the brakes
Added an Upper strut brace
And slightly lightened and trimmed a spare dash for flocking:
And picked up an RST box with LSD:
And new door cards:

And then my B-Tech Racing stickers:
Recieved back all my flocked parts from AUTO FLOCK
And got it all in for FITP:
By this time I'd manage to ruin my diff, so made getting the RST LSD done more important, I also sourced a helix clutch, lightened fly and a few other bits to do at the same time.
New IB5 back with LSD fitted, and painted up:

Next up came the bargin of the century, a set of LEDA coilovers from an old Mk3 Racecar, I couldnt pass up the opporunity to have these:
Meant I had to change the beam to a fork mounted one, but took it as an opportunity to really clean it all up:
Shock done, and the beam before:
After
Difference in shock sizes.
When I put the LEDA's on, I had them only about 1/3 wound down and this happened
Next up was to fit the new box
Replaced the crank seal as a precaution:
Old and new flywheel
Hard at work
End of day one

Day 2
Fit sump back on
New fly on
Prep the box
Back together with a lower strut brace
And on all 4's again
And that brings me upto date with my project, done quite alot in 6 months or so thinking about it.
Next up is to get the car fully prepped and ready for mapping, sort the cam timing and get fuel pressure etc checked, so it's running 100% in time for it. I'm hoping to see around 150BHP once it's all mapped, and then get it corner weighted and geometry set up, and away we go off out on track!
Hope you enjoy the read, it's come on alot and I'm very happy with it now.

Cheers guys! I'm not selling the coilys for a good while, but I'll keep you in mind for when I do :P
And yeah, I cant beleive how much I've actually done in 6 months, really quite suprised. Does explain why I've had no money mind.

Thank you very much, appreciate the kind comments like that.
To be honest, it's getting copied by loads of people now, so when I'm done it wont look anything like it does now. Was original for the 6 months or so, be back better than ever next time round!

Havent updated this thread in a long while, but time for it I think!
The car now looks like this:
For what reason you may ask? Well, the car is undergoing a huge overhaul. I have bought a customer cages weld in cage, and have set about stripping the car ready for it, it's due to go up in the next few weeks, so will be back end of May all being well.
In the meantime, I've bought a few new bits:
Lightweight battery
Pedal box
Also removed all the engine:
And now:
Manual rack will be going on, AC removed and lots of other parts.
Also bought another box, this time an FRP box with Bara LSD, should transform the drive of the car, got to collect a set of 280mm Hi-Spec 4 pots, and loads of other parts should be with me soon, including something from Performance Trim
Loads else going on, cant wait to see some progress now

Stuck with the 1.6 for numerous reasons, good strong engine, I know what I'm doing with them, cheap parts and this one is running good power!
Just shy of 170bhp in NA form. Along with my Ford Racing Puma gearbox and Bara diff, should certainly be quick!

ShawSpeed Custom Cages Installation, Eccentric Top Mounts and other work
For those that may not be aware, my car has been with Jon and Mike at ShawSpeed for a roll cage fitting from Custom Cages, and I got it back today.
I think pictures speak louder than words, so I'll let them do the talking:
Roof removed for carbon fibre replacement:
Steering column and dash bar:
Additional bracing on door bars:
Welded in seat bars and mounts:
Close fitting, required modification to internals of car:
To be continued...

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Proper build.
Would it be worth while to strip the whole shell and have it dipped and primed before the rebuild, save corrosion in the future years etc.
