Small written update to bore you with lol,

spoke to andrew and not much done lately as he is waiting for some more bits to be machined by kenny at omnitool, not sure what tho,

ordered my hydraulic handbrake and also a pair of fia approved towing eyes so Andrew can weld them into place so they stick out nicely somewhere suitable from the front and rear bumpers, so those parts along with the tilton bias valve were posted off to him today as they were the last things he needed from me before he finishes everything off,

not sure when the next update from Andrew will be coming so keep ya eyes peeled

I wonder if theres much weight capable of being lost by cutting out your original floors between sill and tunnel and replacing with thin alloy/composite?? with all the cross bracing there cant be much structural need for the floors?

I wonder how much weight has been saved of the front end through space framing?? Ive always wondered if you do it purely for weight reasons if the cost is worth the saving?? (obviously its done for more than just weight in your case!).

I would not bother cutting the floor sections out now, but I'm interested to see the weight too, all the cage and front end etc is T45 so it's as light as it can be,

I will ask Andrew if he can throw it on the scales when it's done and the doors and boot are back on and his dummy engine is still in it

that wont mean anything unless you can find out the weight of a standard shell. I guess youve got a standard car weight to compare it to when complete!

Im thinking of partially space framing the front of the puma but not as far as you, id leave the chassis legs intact and replace the inner/outer wing pressings and associated metal with tubing. Same with front cross member.

it will mean something as it will give me a clue to the likely final weight of the car, as being 4x4 i was told to expect it to be heavy around 1200kg - 1300kg, but id like to be under 1200kg if poss,

Andrew - judging by this pic of the flange and bearing adapter fitted i assume i will have to use a custom one off mount for whatever caliper i use on the rear as it seems to sit quite far away from the hub? i haven't seen a fully built up grp a unit to compare tho?

Normal mk6 fiesta weighs between 1096kg and 1178kg,

I've saved alot of weight but added a lot of cage and heavy 4x4 transmission so it will be interesting to see

Hopefully mine is next for a rear end setup at AG, just waiting for Andrew to get back to me to see when he can take it. Got to admire his skills and work!

The AG team certainly have the skills no doubt about that,

as for ford fair i wish it would but there's too much to buy and not enough funds at the mo but hopefully next year for sure,

hopefully have some updates from Andrew this week if the bits he was waiting for from kenny are done etc

beef, i think that the handbrake is both

there is a thing that goes over the top with teeth in and it locks the handbrake on as well as being fly off

cracking work andrew as usual

looks fooking awesome.....thanks for the update Andrew

think you will still be on track to have the all the main parts finished this week if kenny gets the parts your waiting for machined up etc? then i think that will only leave the fuel system to discuss,

Beefy - the handbrake is lockable but no hydraulic handbrake will pass MOT as you have to have a cable item incase the hydraulic system loses pressure/fluid and fails so i will need a cable spot caliper and back up for mot times,

i cant wait to get this home and do some work myself as i feel a bit left out

Once again big thanks to Andrew and Scott for an absolutely amazing job with this build and kenny for his machining skills

the engine will be a field Motorsport built yb running between 450 and 500bhp with similar torque if possible, and as the pics show it's running 4wd

this is like a smaller version of Andrews focus but will not have such exotic transmission unfortunately, as for cost Andrew has done me a good price

no I can't see it being long now as the AG team are making serious
progress lately but there's a few extra's to be discussed still,
but as il be skint when I get it back things will slow down but there is still alot I can be doing that doesn't cost the earth and I'm just looking forward to being able to work on it myself

Also although 99.9% of the fab work is complete I have bought myself a sealey 160 supermig as I'm going to teach myself how to weld
first on the list to do when the cars back is weld up some custom bars/braces to fit the shell to the rollover jig my mate dave is lending me so I'm looking forward to that,

will grab a pic of all my new welding gear tonight and post it up

And with any luck there will be more updates from Andrew at the end of the week so keep your eyes peeled

I asked Andrew to weld in another eye bolt fixing plate for the crotch belt as wrapping it around the seat bar didn't even enter my head
luckily He knows what he doing or I'd be adding weight I don't even need,

small update,

nothing to really show as yet so just fill you in on whats been happening,

the last major part of the build as far as Andrews work is concerned is the front suspension/tca/comp strut set up,

Before the car was started i spoke to Andrew and told him that on the front end i want it fully in situ adjustable, on the tca, comp strut and steering rack rod ends but i definitely did not want to use the off the shelf compbrake tca's and comp struts as in my opinion and seeing the failures others have had just "pushing" there cars about that there items are just not strong enough for an out and out track/race car.

Unfortunately i dont have the money spare to go for a proper wrc/grp a front set up so have to stick with the standard hubs. Andrew tried to use a proper grp a tca and adapt the pin to suit the standard hub but after messing around he just wasn't happy with the angle so that idea was scrapped, he is currently having some more bits machined up to make his own bits up from scratch i think so im sure he will post up some pics when this has been done, as im eager to see it myself and this means the car is very close to being ready to collect

Only other thing that's been sorted is a roll over jig from a friend Dave so that when the shell is back i can make up some suitable brackets with the new welder and get the car in the air ready for the prep and paint process of the inside outside and underneath and engine bay,

The cylinder head is not yet ready from tommy as he has been manic busy and is also waiting on the cams to be made up as they are not an off the shelf item so no idea how long that will be but pics when its done of course

last thing is the little ebay bargain i got of a set of brand new ARP rod bolts for £34 another little part of the future engine build,

An update from Andrew soon with any luck so watch this space..........
