We have spoken to bernie many times about the mtx box but tbh has anyone with power given 1 a good beating as he says tbh there no better ? the way forward was the rsfocus box but then again ive seen 300 bhp cars but anyone one with lots of power ? dunno im thinking outside the box this time maybe something different dunno
However im running 350hp lowboost / 400 full at the moment and the car has done around 600 miles(road/track abuse with 120 listed dyno runs) to date on this set up. I also know of a handful of cars with the similar power in the USA that have had no issues with the 6 speed st170 box.
The beauty of the st170 box is its gear layout so distributes the load far better than the typical CTS Time bomb box. Which even at a lowly 240hp i killed twice.
Ratio wise the st170 is excellent for track and with the short ratios acclerates well through the gears + ive added the quaife diff, the only area in which I feel could hold you back is topspeed as I have found this now!!!
With 195/50/15 tyres and a rev limit of 7800 in 6th your looking at 164mph.
Something in which is frustrating but you cant always have your cake and eat it!
For this reason I have speced a gear kit semi helical dog kit with a transmision company that will utilise the short ratios lower down the box and then gradually feed in a longer 4.5.6 gear so at a rev point in 6th of 7500rpm if the aero, power and your balls allow!! - it equates to 188mph on 15's!!!
Easily a 200mph FWD car would be possibly then with the right engine Yikes!!!

Tim, the RS Focus is an MTX 'box (just with shot-peened gears).
On paper the MTX is 30% stronger than the IB5 that I was running before. MASSIVELY under what torque I have, but I'm just looking at the improvement over what I have now. It's a bastard of a conversion whatever anyone says, but new set-up is nice (I hope). Not sure how much detail I have gone into on my thread.
Options are fairly limited though, unless you want to get into some REALLY serious work.

When Bernie built up my new box after I broke my Stage 2 IB5 he told me the MTX75 box was lots stronger than the BC/IB5 type. And the box I had built will be bullet proof.
The spec of my MTX75 is, Quaife ATB Diff with shot peen and polished gears.
Below you can see the difference of the MTx75 next to the rebuilt IB5
MTX75 is the way to go Tim

15K+ Super Poster!!
The MTX is going in mine because of the ratios. The americans have pushed 500+ through them with no issues, but we'll see what happens over here.

That’s true and I do appreciate that it’s allot easier to install an mtx75 into my car as it was fitted standard on the xr3i 130ps and rs 2000.
It’s got to be the way forward for the big power FWD escort and fiesta boys over the ib5/bc box.

Tim,
A MTX75 conversion isnt that bad as there are several options for fitment. I have converted mine over to a S1 front suspension setup which has other benifits and is very easy to do if you have a welder. This lends itself very well to mounts etc. If you want any help I can offer advice if you need it based on my conversion? You are welcome to have a ganders at mine if it would help!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Wow still going strong Tim Can't believe how quick you've managed to make it go!!!
If you sell it you'll only buy another one so you might as well keep it!!
