Bantam RS Turbo project (escort mk4 pickup)
Hi passionford members after watching many threads of you. Now I think it’s time that I'll start mine.
In 1992 when I’ve got my drivers licence my first car was an ’88 escort xr3i cabrio and with that car I also
started my passion for that model.
made it turbo drive
a few years later my dad gave me a 90’s escort van. Has got xr3i power in it (from the cabrio)
and made it full option
and soon followed an rs turbo
In 2004 I told a college at work that I want to collect every model of the escort mk4,
and he told me that he lived a few year in south-africa and that he drove a escort pickup there.
I tought meant a sierra P100, but in 2005 on ford fair I saw it in real live an escort mk3 pickup (bantam).
So I started dreaming of a mk4 bantam.
In 2008 I found someone in cape town who wanted to help me, but he told me it was not going to be easy to find a nice one.
Because a bantam is a workhorse and not a normal used car.
So he started the search, after a half year (almost giving up to find a decent one), I saw an ad on the internet that looked promising.
He was used for the daily shopping of a guesthouse and always stored in a garage.
And there he was my bantam.
THANKS AGAIN Hans
It took a few weeks to get the paperwork done. And then he was ready to load him in to a container.
Three weeks later he was in Antwerp waiting for me.
The first thing I did was changing the original wheels for my 17 inch alloys, looks much better!!
putted the tonneau cover on the trunk
chanced the original bumper and bonnet for an 90’s front bumper and an rs turbo bonnet
Took the slow 1400 engine out
removed the interior and didn’t find any rust
even the underside look great
Put the rear axle on the leaves and got it 12cm lower
Made him ready to put an rs turbo in the bantam
time to get the engine in
And this is him now ready to get him on the road.
thanks for watching my thread

it was very expencive, but i felt in love with it and had to have one.
The shipping did cost more than the car and when you import it in europe
you need to pay taxes on the car and the shipping.
Like it is now(incl. turbo convension), it already cost me as much as four bantam's
and i still need to pay for the paperwork here to get it on the road.
