Here is a bunch of paint shop pics... i have had so many hurdles on what should be such a straight up task, thats what happens when you have eyes bigger than your wallet

Yes its a shed in a shed, don't want that two pack getting into everything and want to be able to blow out the fumes...

And the paint...

The car in the paint area

Color is going to be black with a blue fleck that you can only just see.... everyone who sees it loves it... subtle but its there... still sticks to original cossie color and adds some spice

My car thinks its an F18 fighter its been of the ground for so long

Here is the big arse fan I made up... but i am not using it now as the 3 phase costs too much , i just got a standing 32inch single phase fan and seems fine...
I could use this one for wind tunnel effects maybe

This fan pushes a lot and sounds like a small plane

bought another sump to make my big wing sump from... thanks to mark who is cleaning out the oil for shipping cause I am a fellow ford fan...
(I was happy to pay him for degreaser etc...)

And yet again thanks to Linc for letting me use his ORIGINAL DJR sump as a guide to make it... that thing is a work of art...

I am still looking for a 4WD head and or 2WD head and rear wheel bearings then I am shipping my stuff over to finish the build...
Oh nearly forgot, looking for solid lifters for mechanical cams... i think I am going to have buy off the manufacturer of the cams (Newman) which is gonna be expensive...

Let me know if you can help on those bits

Neville got me out of bed today saying, im coming over and lets start painting... so we did it..
Neville reckoned the primer went on very nicely... and the spray booth - she worked superbly....

Thanks Maree for bringing out the lunch and coming along to get the thinners... great to have a wife that gets in and enjoys this stuff

Hey Linc, I stuck the Tig on max and pushed the foot pedal to the floor literally and the ally welded (just, i could not back off )... looks like the 4mm ally is the limit of my little Tig... So your comment was right on

great thread.

i know what you mean about it being easier on spinners. I made mine, and have re-built several sierras since. so much easier to work on.

I just love this car, I wish I could build a car like this. Could you come down to Melbourne some time soon and advise me what to do to get a car as sweet as this.
I also reckon you engine approach is spot on, I think I will change to that spec.

As new SATA spray gun with spare tip....
I did not realise the significance of the stars and stripes special edition... you cannot see in the pic but when look closely you see it in the plating nice effect..

And now for the hot tip. Thanks to Lincoln identifying a key feature in certain group A cars.. I have created the hood link... its connects directly to the inner trailing arm mounts. When it gets a roll cage the mounts would be directly to the roll cage. In the meantime this mounts to a brace between the two sides.

You have to panel beat the frame to get the right angle for the plate to fit on... and give enough room to mount to the rear beam.
I have modified some urethane mounts to use so that it is not metal on metal. The pads are welded to the body and to the hand brake mounts... really welding is not critical as it is the wedging onto the bracket that matters

The following mount / brace is put inside the car..., later on it will mount to roll cage (assuming i put one in). You can see the panel beating has made the body flat wheras it was rounded

Painted the under side and engine bay....
My spray gun works great even on first try...

Color is black with a blue pearl in it which you can only see in direct sunlight.. its very faint to ensure the car does not deviate from standard colors too much. You can just see it in the pic, btw these are not the best pics just ones
I threw onto my iphone

I am away from home, I have expanded the pic its not that good but you can see the fleck popping... in the direct sun, in real life it looks black still and the blue flecks show through.... as I said in less than direct sun it looks like a good black.
The pearls are used to give the black a better finish...
