Right block date is 1981, so surley its RSi? cant find the magnetic strip on the fly wheel tho?

double check, yes its CVH26

This was rather early in the mornig so i didnt take may pics, but basically set all the clearances on the lifters.

Pain in the arse, i had to make up a tool to do these, does any one know if there is a propper one you can buy?

Fitting the inlet after a clean up

Cleaned up the injectors as best as i could

Througher degrease with thinners, and fit Felpro turbo gasket, set TDC's

Lovley new NON stretch bolts

Torque up

Thermo

Rad clean up

And fitted

Getting there. Few more pipes and bits then the dreaded Electrics.

Hope you like

Not too much, few more engine bits

then the dreaded wiring and electrics

Quick once over the suspension and brakes with some new parts.

And its pretty much ready to rock!

Looking good again mate

You wont find a magnetic strip on the flywheel as there isnt one, it is just a metallic tooth that the sensor picks up.

Nine teeth in from the left yeh?

And is that a yellow paint line between tooth 4 and 14?

Shame its on the clutch side Cant believe i put mine in with out checking, im just too keen.

Right will have another good look around.

Do you think if i had a small piece of metal it would stick to the tooth?

And also am i right in thinking if i want to see the tooth from under the car the engine should be around TDC?

I wonder how ford did the tooth, surley it cant be that hard to do if im missing mine?

Cant find the tooth yet. Really waiting now on the cam belt tensioner to arrive so i can turn the engine over to check the whole flywheel.

Whilst i was under there i connected up the gear linkage and speedo cable.

The nasty electrics, ive chosen for now to simply put them back in situ. As i know if i wrap them all in pretty black tape theres bound to be an issue somewhere when i come to start the engine and test all the circuits.

Well one of my items turned up in the post, a Genuine mk3 1600i engine mount Pretty much rare as hens teeth ive been told?

The metal bracket part i have i think must be from a xr3i as its too long for the 16i mount, so for not ive chopped this one about untill i find a suitable replacenemt. (ps do not attempt to take pictures whilst grinding its hightly irresponsible and only an idiot would think to do it )

Still feeling bit rough so decided to do some less strenous bits. Fitted the spoiler. I used black rivets, i dont know it the O.E fixings are self tappers of what, but i thought is use rivets as they are neat and tidy.

Painted up the head lights (I have a brand new spaer set left over from my S1 but will keep these safely tucked away for now)

D'OH
Spot the missing part, Dont suppose anyone has a single unit for sale?

Lights in and all nice and lined up thanks to left over fixings from my S1

Ive kept the bonnet off untill now to aid acess to the bay, but thought id get it on as it was only a matter of time before it got dented standing in the corner, The ghia strip came off supprisigly easy and buy mirical the paint underneath was unmarked, no rust, nothing!

As you have read the car had a good wash down 3 weeks ago before the resto started, so it was straight on to Paint Cleaner

And the crap that came off

Then a quick clay bar

This is after 1 minuite on half the bonnet

and the whole bonnet

Mild polish

Well its not great but will do for now untill next winter. No wax yet as the stickers will fall off

Quick mark up

A cheap set of graphics came with the car, they have been sitting around for a while by the looks of it and unfortuianatly got a bit battered (well you saw how the boot was loaded when the car arrived) But they will do for now

Pleasntly supprised, as said they are not perfect due to the backing paper being folded and creased in storage. but ok for the summer!

And the decal

Cant really do much more untill the tensioner turnes up now

Well after a cringe worthy lower spliter detachment on my escort cossie pulling into a petrol starion, im kinda paranoid now!

Ordered it as a kit, so all brand spanking new!

Just bouhgt a bare Rsi head, thinking of fitting my old head internals with the hydro lifters into it, and keeping stored up as a emergency spare!

Sorry no updates today, been working flat out at work today trying to get back some of the hours I lost earlier due to being on my death bed

Yesterday was a bit of a nothing day, one of those where you work flat out but at the end it dont look like youve done anything.

I rolled out the car to get some pics of the body work and the few bits that need touching up for the summer.

My main aim was to also tidy my workshop as it was getting so messy, even little jobs on the car of the bench were getting hindered.

The car (before)

the bad bits
Off side door

wiper cowling

chip on near side rear 1/4

broken mirror

theres a few other tiny chips, but didnt photograph too well

Work shop before

And after

Went to cambridge early yesterday morning and picked up this as a spare.

Ive also sorted out a few bits ive had laying around for years now.

Will stick them all on the bay and try and get some money back from the parts to help pay towards the 16i.

Price list on the resto fo follow.

Gratis, how 80's

D'oh, oh well. I may put a list of things im short on to save future things happening like this.

Very busy with work, but been doing a little bit here and there.

Started on the underside and arches, as im still waiting on the engine parts to turn up!

I still cant believe how clean and rust free this thing is.

I dont think its been on the road since the welding to the floor, so its was still all fresh and tidy so simply needed a 2nd coat of waxoil for good measure

A quick look over the brakes and it looks like they were serviced, i.e new pads just before it came of the road. Once the car is running i will see just how good/bad all this stuff is al beit a bit dusty and dirty. If its a good as it looks then they may be ok for at least this summer!

Felt like christmas today with 2 parcels waiting for me when i got in!
(no the bloody engine bits tho!!)

My coil bracket

Sadly it had been polished at some point so a quick going over with the course sand paper

and after a paint

This an an oil seal from a JCB but perfect size for the dizzy blank

New front bunper, a bit peed of as i thought i have some spare from the S1 but turns out, they are all rear bumpers

After primer

Top coat

Had a bit of a look over the wiring for the coils

Heres the 2 thats were in the car when i got it

Just given them a quick clean up for now, thought id better check they work before i go to town on them

Cleaned up sensor

Car must have been running a dizzy when it came off the road, but at least the plugs werent ripped off and disguarded

sensor loom

Re connection ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE WHITE WIRE CONNECTS TOO?

I believe this is the "warm up regulator"
I can see the t red fuel lines connect to the meter unit and the black loom plug. But where the hell is the thing mounted? and also where to the 2 cooland pipes connect to???

Ok the white wire should have a black female bullet connector on the end. It goes the the little screw on the throttle housing(looks like a throttle stop screw but isnt) its something to do with the shut off lights.

The warm up regulator mounts to the rear of the engine beneath the throttle body...
