The Weber conversion totally transformed it, and as much as I would reccomend it to everyone I know it is still pricey.
To be brutally honest if I was doing a Zetec conversion and working on a tight budget I would go straight for one of Weber's plug and play stand alone ECU & loom kit which retains the original inlet manifold.
Its about £300, ready mapped for whatever version of Zetec you have....... and well worth it if it means you don't have to deal with shonky old Ford looms!

Are you sure its about £300? i cant find the kit anywhere? a link would be great!
Edit: dont worry.. i found one for 995 i think it was.

Gearbox went pop last night! Nursed it home in 3rd for about 10 miles as it was the only gear I could eventually find!
This doesn't bode well for my MK3 project which will also be running a BC box with tons more power
Cheers!
The kit I've got can be supplied mapped for any version of the 1.8 & 2.0 Zetec.
Nothing for the 1.6 as nobody really tunes them as they've got a massively restrictive head...

You could fit the mk5 escort IB5 bit stronger than the BC

ST170 running the Weber Alpha throttle Bodies, should see 200BHP or not far off
Also should get a tart up as its got some crusty bits appearing.... although its tempting to leave it, as mintyness means less sleeper points!
Got one in it now, fingers crossed it holds up!

Was at the 'Ring last week in the Estate with the new ST170 & throttle bodies setup... quick and a lot of fun but need some geometry mods I'd say to make it less twitchy and underteery. Still raced and passed tons of unsuspecting cars though including an M3, AMG merc etc etc...
Managed a 9:50 on the dry day... video to follow, for now here's a couple of nicked pix

Nothing different! Just some maintenance from the results of the trip to Norway....
A CV boot ripped right off, and there's some nasty transmission noises as well. Fingers crossed it's just the CV joint, but my gut says it's the box...

Not been on the dyno, but somewhere between 180-200 BHP. I'd say in the upper regions of that estimate.
Did a 14.8sec quarter mile on Crail's shitty surface last weekend.

Here's a vid from the Ring a few months back. This was the last lap of the day in the Estate taking 9:51min.
The day before I had ripped the exhaust off in the Carousel, and during this day the Alternator self destructed due to prolonged high revs. I still drove it to Norway for Gatebil the day after though!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XavaM46jFQ
For future trips it seriously needs its handling sorted though, as it was very vague, heavy and prone to sudden understeer
Still all good fun, can't wait to get back!

Running an IB5 box now which seems to be holding up!
VVT is currently on a switch, but it's mapped to come in at around 2000rpm. Basically just switch it off for starting and idling in jams. Will be getting properly hooked up to the Weber ECU soon though.
Yeah, I think using it as a tow car might be a bad idea too

big difference is getting it working properly with a PWM output from ecu as its not as simple as on/off mate. ill be finding out in the next month or so as just getting a dta s60 instead of the mbe to control it ...downside is cost £1000 +for ecu and loom plus mapping. has sitech done any of these on a PWM output??

The Weber ECU didn't have a suitable output, but they've since sent Sitech some appropriate parts to solder in, then it'll be all good to run it...
