Default Merc Grey FRST - Finished but not running :-(

well almost, still gotta get it round my mates to weld the screamer pipe. but it aint running electrical problem, no spark and no fuel. tried everything i can think of, had rac bloke round with diagnostic equipment, and now just gotta wait for my mobile auto electrician guy to ring me to say when he can come round, either way central day isnt likely to happen which im gutted about.

but anyway il crack on with the fun stuff lol
done loads but cant be bothered to go into that as its boring, speedo cable, painting stuff etc.

il let the pics do most the talking..

cut hole in manifold, took 3 different hole cutters and over an hour, cast iron is not great when all you have is a hand drill



this was my mates first atempt at doing the manifold, but he welded the flange on the wrong way round and was being fould by the turbo elbow (he didnt have elbow with him at the time) but he does my work for free/cheap when he has spare time/is tired at the end of the day, so i couldnt blame him.



so i gave it back and he did a sterling job second time around..



he also saved me from having to weld the w.g shut by making up this bracket..



stripped cleaned, and painted..



fitted..



i then made a bracket to brace it up..



xr rad on..



intercooler on, water and boost pipes were a right ass, had to chop and extend pretty much every water and boost hose due to wider xr rad and using an escort cooler with wrong angled pipe take offs, but all good and tight now


bay pretty much finished now..



painted and fitted this escort rst swirl pot..



got this ebay cheapie to fit but cuz of escort swirl pot the the rad inlet pipe is in the way now so gotta get a 45degree pipe and hope it'll fit nearer the gearbox



need to fit this cossie pump but wanna get car runinng first..




and as for the non mechanical side of things, the interior is all back in, i will be going stripped out at some point, but i still need to get a strut brace welded in before i can spray the inside, plus im still a softie for a full interior. theres still some weight saved as all sound deadening is removed, rear wiper and motor gone, rear 6x9's gone, and all seat belts removed.
i think the red works quite well with the harness' and the rs wheel. i also put a black carpet in as my grey one was shot..



fitted new ambers, headlights, and slam panel sticker..



painted wheels gloss black, did the rear drums too..



need to trim the arches back abit more as you cant even fit a ciggie between tyre and arch lol



a twins inspired one, satin black sun strip but i did a zvh inside sticker for the embossed effect, i dont usually like sun strips on road cars but i think this one ent to chavy lol



finished the carbon splitter..







when i look at this pic i just cant wait to see a screamer poking out the bumper :Q


so thats where it stands now, hopefully will get through this leccy problem and even if i miss central day il still be happy just to have it running for the whole summer

firstly i gotta big up paul (bad boy rs) and john (frsjon) , both of them straight away told me my fault was pointing to the cps. so i ow you both lunch at central day (although ive owed you that for over a year john lol)

basicaly i forgot i had tidied up a tatty bit of wiring on the cps sensor plug, course cuz its all covered up by the turbo etc. i forgot to check that! i remember i had a mate round when i was doing it and i must have been distracted as i didnt insulate each wire seperatly before heat shrinking, just wrapped them both up touching eachother! making it short out, so seperated them and it started up straight away!

let it warm up and bled water system, let all the heat paint cook, forgot how much new paint smokes lol. and she didnt even need the fans cutting in runs nice and cool, sounds good, although with no screamer yet it does sound abit fruity in the engine bay lol.

so before i could even catch my breath i jumped in it and popped it round my mates so he can get on with the screamer tommorow as i gotta go cardiff all day for a funeral.

didnt get a chance to boost it as i forgot that its got a knackered wheel bearing that sounded like it was gonna give up any second so limped it round (no tax either so didnt wanna risk breaking down). so wont know untill fri night/saturday if she boosts up all good with the new w.g system.

just gotta hope the second hand turbos a good'un. cuz its a wet night i dont know if it was condensation in my mirror following me to my mates or a fuked turbo lol

either way il be smoking her to central day even if i cant take it up the strip

thanks pal, been on a proper buzz tonight now its runnin. i know it gets said all the times, but these cars will really try ya, but when they finally come around you cant beat the feeling

after i dropped it at my mates i decided to walk back with the ipod, had the dubstep booming, and i was chain smoking and proper skanking all the way home cuz i felt so good

cheers guys

still got loads to do tommorow, theres still a constant cluncking/tapping from rear drivers wheel even tho ive done wheel bearing. so need to find out what that is and get to motor factors before they shut at lunch, need to tax it, refit exaust as centre box and down pipe are knocking, fit cossie fuel pump and drill screamer tip on as its knocking about too. it sounds like a right shitter with all these knockings etc. at the mo lol. if i cant sort drum out tommorow in time then it wont be coming central day as clucking/grinding is so loud i dont think it would make it there so will have to see..

anyway heres a pic of it after picking it up from my mates with screamer on, looks quite subtle, but is fucking noisey

thanks for the wicked comments fellas

thought id put up some better pics of the screamer set up..

my mate had an old xr3i down pipe lying around thats has 40mm pipes on the 4-2-1 bit so he cut the bends off and used them on the screamer



i then finished it off with a cheap motor factors exhaust tip



and some pics from central day, dont think anyone really saw it as i got beached up at the back by the drift track lol







right now onto the problems as usual

the wastegate is releasing gases when on idle and its making it sound stupidly loud, not sure why as it should be shut except when boosting? ive fitted wastgate exactly as it should be and not forgot to fit the ring seal so i stumpt?

also, she boosts fine in all gears except first? hits 2psi then seems to missfire/stutter and not boost any further, but in other gears it'll boost the set 11psi fine?

anyone got any suggestions?

well ive done 1800 miles in the fez now and its been going well for once

sorted a few things out, figured out the screamer boost and blowing problem. fixed my dodgy starter, fitted paddle clutch, put my old 25mm springs back on blah blah

ive just gotta fit my cossie pump, fit new engine mount (cheers FRSJON ) and waiting for my bigger wastegate spring to arrive.. then its off for a live road set up at a place called bbr - gti tuning next week on tuesday. its only 15miles form my house and i never even knew it existed. guy that will be doing my car has worked in motorsport for 30years, has done loads of rs turbos and cossies, and held the fastest thruxston lap for 6 years, so i guess its in good hands!
so hopefully it will all be running spot on for a ragging up the strip at classic ford on the 31st :Q

just gotta get my longer studs and r888's on in time!

Well Nothings changed on the fez since the last update, other than the rears all stripped out ready for paint, and ive got a melted bumper around the screamer pipe

Took the fezzy on the strip at classic ford and did a few runs. best time was a 14.1 which i guess isn't too bad considering i was running rubber band tyres that i forgot to let the pressures down on, and a non LSD gearbox. which meant there was no point launching hard.
Its given me a good starting point, as hopefully when i go back next il have an LSD in and my 888' on, meaning il be able to launch properly and get some high 13's.

here are a couple of vids anyway, excuse the far away filming, my mate didnt realise my n96 has a zoom option

this my second run against a 2.0 pinto mk2..



and this was my first ever time doing a quarter mile.. i got well and truly destroyed bearing in mind i was bricking it anyway, things became even more real once this 600bhp mk2 started warming its tyres, its on this months classic ford cover lol. not the best competitor to start against, he got a low 11 or a high 10 in this one i think.




was all good fun though and i cant wait to go back again with a better spec soon, it really was one of the most exciting times ive had in a car :Q


ive recently got a new job ive been chasing for ages, which means i can now treat the fezzy to some new stuff, gonna give carbon delight a ring and get some bits, and will be ordering up a 50bhp wet shot nos kit.
am also gonna get my mate to make me up a custom side exit exhuast

also i recently purchased this to replace my current 328i sport. never had a vert before and i love my e36's so had to have it
im sure most of you recognise it as its tiff's old one. he sold it to andy off here, and i managed to by it off andy last weekend



here are some pics taken before i owned it..












its a 328i cab in cosmos back, only 77k on the clock with full service history.
light grey leather with rare matching trimmed m sport steering wheel
aircon
climate control
heated seats
electric roof
carbon interior pack
carbon intake
19" ac schnitzers
clifford alarm with intelstart and some other tricks
and the rest is standard

instant plans are to get the lips on the schnitzers re polished as the road salt seems to have got to them in certain places, and get the rear arches rolled slightly, to be honest it could do with some lower profile tyres to clear the rear arches but all the tyres are new so would rather just roll the backs out abit. at some point soon i may get it detailed somewhere, along with paint correction and leather treatment. but to be honest bar a few swirl marks visible under strong sunlight its all in good nick
