Merc Grey Fiesta RST - 3/5/10 SOLD!
thought it was about time i started a thread up on here as it may help push me to get more done on the car if im getting feedback lol.
ive owned it 3 years now. love/hate relationship as im sure most of us have with our projects.
this is how i bought it..
il start off with some pics of the work i did last winter.
ripped the old engine out that a certain northampton tuning company looked at, repaired, charged me for work they never did, and told me it was fine. then the oil rings went a month later
so being wounded from that i vowed to take on all work myself, even if i didnt know how to do it all lol.
so i resprayed the bay and dropped in a 1.8zvh
i then got my mate to weld in new inner sills and replace some rusty bits in the floor pans. painted my wheels charcoal black and slammed it 60mm. leaving me with this..
i did loads of other bits to it too but no point going into that.
the current spec is:
1.8zvh
T3 turbo
Gas flowed head
beiges, 195 chip
S1 lsd box
nothing major but in the next couple of months i plan on getting a few bits to help the engine then i wanna get it running 18psi and a full set up.
so now were in another winter ive decided to start more work on it. this time going for the weight saving option.
il be keeping the front half of the inside as standard. but the rear will be completly stripped bar rear quarter cards and rooflining.
ive completed doing the painstacking task of stripping all the sound deadening out with a heat gun and scraper. i filled 2 carrier bags of the stuff and was suprised with quite how much it all weights!
so here she is at the moment..
all stripped and wire wheeled..
the plan is to now prep it and spray it all in fresh mercury grey. ive got a few other things i want to do to with the interior but will take pics and show as i go along.
i should be doing a little work on it this week (as im out of a job ) so will update soon.
cheeRS.

cheers for the comments lads
glenny boy - i liked the car original too, but to be honest i was getting abit bored with it, and was hoping on getting a saph soon, but seeing as i havnt got a job right now ive decided to keep the fez. so i thought id make it abit more quarter mile based to excite me more
and everyone whos asked bout the rocker cover. you'll all be pleased to know its Ł12 a can 'wrinkle paint' from burton. bought it last year but think they still sell it

done a bit this week as i havnt had a job to go to but got myself some labouring work starting tommorow so happy to be making some money at least.
i fitted some bonnet pins..
seam sealed the welds (the brown spots are smeared sound deadening glue not rust )..
and painted the floor in mercury grey, even though im fitting carpet back over it lol. also painted handbrake in gloss black.
fitted a new vacuum hose as the clip on mine had cracked..
got some black interior handles to match the flocked door pockets (which for some reason the cap isnt staying clipped in place)..
and a clean header tank from the scrappy..
got two sets of brand new head lights..
and the car is now sitting on 16" azev a's wrapped in new toyo proxes. might try and get two 15" azev a's for the front to wrap in high profile r888's for strip use. but we'll see how much money i have left at the end of the build..
unsure of what colour to go for with the azevs. im a sucker for black so ive been thinking of satin black. but im temtped to keep it original and go silver. i also like the idea of merc grey wheels, feel free to help me decide
i have got the large azev centre caps but il be leaving them off and making some small carbon caps instead.
cheeRS for looking.

Update time..
been doing abit of shopping..
got myself a front mount and some slim fans. fans will be going on my rad..
T34 Turbo
carbon splitter, im sure its obvious who it came from
ambers
slam panel sticker
omex rev limiter
a very rare mint rs accesories wheel
and the party piece, a 38mm external wastegate..
i decided to use this as the actuator on the t34 wont fit in the space between turbo and rad, and seeing as i used to wreck rads just with a t3, i dont wanna keep doing that anymore.
plus it should help lag on the t34 abit, and sound awsome
heres an idea of how it will look in the bay, im gonna run the screamer pipe out the side of the bumper
i resprayed the front end behind the bumper, and cut the front bib out to make space for the cooler..
now fitting the intercooler proved abit of a pain, as its an s2 cooler, the lower take off isnt angled up like it should be for a fez, so it woulnt fit close enough to get behind the bumper,
so i cut the take off shorter..
and then had to cut a small recces for the boost hose to fit comfortably over front lower panel.
i used a s2 metering unit hose as it has the right curves..
i then made up some brackets to fit it as the s2 ones wer no good..
now annoyingly cuz of the lower take off pipe angle, i had to have the cooler really far out, which meant really going to town with my bumper, i didnt want a big mouth but had to do a wide deep one other wise the cooler would fit behind the bumper. i also had to take a small bit off the bottom of bumper as cooler was touching..
i then thought id see how the front end would look with the cut out roughly done and the splitter taped on..
looked mean but i think unless i went morretes, loose fogs etc. the splitter wouldnt work..
so i cut the splitter down to the size of the original standard one and i think it works better with my front end..
i just need to straighten up the left side of cut out. annoyingly the cooler has a larger right end tank, so it looks like ive fitted the cooler off central but thats just the way its designed. im just happy it fits and i got it for a bargain price so its all good.
finished prepping the inside, ready for my mate to weld in a strut brace, then i can get the gun out and spray the inside up
