Cheers for the words of encouragement guys......
Right then....todays update......I now have 6 selectable gears.....and a partially completed gearbox mount!!!
Am really happy with the way its currently progressing.....still lots to do but really enjoying it at the moment!!
Anyway.....here are the pics as usual...
Take one piece of rectangular box section...
....and a 2wd gearbox mounting...
...make a large hole in the centre...
...and a couple of little ones...
....join everything together...looking slightly familar to all you cosworth gents...lol
....bolted up in place to the gearbox..not yet drilled the holes into the floor as yet...
Then take some random bit of circular steel I found in one of my drawers...
...drill a hole in it...
...do a bit of tapping....not with the foot either...
....was a bit of a struggle tapping a 10mm hole for M12 (couldnt find my 11mm HSS drill bit) but I got there in the end...
..then take a large threaded bar purchases from B&Q earlier.....and thread into freshly tapped part...
Anyone got any ideas where I'm going with this????? No....ok I'll carry on..
Remove Jag linkage from Getrag box....
Snap it in two with your bare hands......ok if you cant quite manage it use a hacksaw instead...
Time for some more welding.....line everything up & hold in place..
..couple of tacks.....here...
and here.....now you must be able to see whats going on...
Test fitting....
...and measuring the rod...(oooh er!)
...chop it down & refit...and test...then find that the tacks werent strong enough to be doing practise gearshifting....
...so took it all off & welded it good & proper....
...refit & tighten up...as you can see I have full adjustablity due to the threaded section so I can get the gearstick exactly where I want it in neutral - its held in place by a nylock M12 bolt to stop it self adjusting...
...next check all gears...Neutral....start with a nice easy one...lines up nicely too..
....Reverse....
...1st...
....2nd...
...3rd...
...4th...
....5th...
Perfect.....linkage probably isnt as tight as what it could be due to the travel of the rod - i think there may be a bit of flex somewhere - might investigate once I've driven it - but it feels ok to be honest & not like a cock in a sock either!!
Final picture of todays work...
Just before I went home I thought I'd get the prop shaft in to measure up...
.....oh maybe not as it wont fit through the Renault hole....nothing a hammer or grinder wont sort next time..
Thats all for now!!
