thats looking good, i'm doing mine at the moment in the same way too, on the floor under axlestands and some tyres i can recomment gunk though. its 7 quid for a big tin, and will degrease the surface first it makes it MUCH easier, and dosent clog the wire brush.

cheers for that mate, it's inside a shed that I share with other people though so I cant make too much of a mess with things like that 
The wire brush has been good so far up until I hit the fuel tank area, its got some horrible tarry black underseal on (a garage put it on while they had the tank out to preserve it!) and the stonechip will just react to it so it all has to come off, but I've got some paint coming soon (thanks to Andy mac!) that i'll be doing the whole underside in, its a gloss finnish so that will give it a nice white shine too but it requiers a primer before it's applied which im told should go over the underseal no bother so I might give it a bash without removing it, as it's just a total nightmare to take off!
i'll go have a look in your resto thread assuming u got one! cheers

i dont have a resto tread on here, i might do one though. mine was waxoyl'd all the way underneath, and the gunk literally dissolved it, then it brushed off with a paint brush and washed clean with the hose. i was SO chuffed! but as yours, it had thicker stuff in the wheelarches and along the chassis rails.
this is my engine bay at the mo,. i painted it last week. (ignore the run on the right wing )

its a little more built up now, but its the only pic i have. enough thread hijacking though! sorry mate

lol no worries, looks good though! paint looks good despite the run, it will rub down tho eh? I know nothing about painting so i'll be leaving that up to an expert I reckon!
mines got the thicker stuff on the inner arches and chassis rails too, i've kept it on the rear arches and prob keep ti on the underside but just clean it up before I paint, every bit of protection helps eh!
Engien looks nice and fresh, whats the spec?

the run is already sorted 
i'm not too bad with rattle cans, but nothing on the outside! hehe. although i did do the mirrors when i first got it. if a panel or anythig needs doing, it gets done properly, i HATE bodged paint! i'm not after a concourse car, but i thought i might as well "do it properly" if you can use that term loosely 
i am putting underseal back on the underneath, but the project just spiralled slightly and it all had to come off. wish i did't bother starting that now though, and just topped up the current uderseal and then painted over that. but you live and learn. spec of engine, nothing too silly to begin with, new gaskets and some new bolts etc etc, maintenance stuff. i've got a turbosystems chip, piper fast road cam, double capacity intercooler, uprated clutch, polybushes and strutbraces. i want it to handle real nice, and a good setup on the rolling road should sort it for a while.

Wee update, painted more of the boot floor and got the pass side rear arch stonechipped, so that all 4 arches, boot floor stonechipped..no pics as I err broke my phone

Tonight I didnt make it down to the shed, but David plodded on and seam welded my rear strut tops ready for when I get my Gaz Coilovers
Also a pic of the 4th and last arch to be stonechipped before the whole lot gets painted!

Well not much to update as have been busy with other things...buying a frst for the summer being one of them!
I know it needs wheels and a polish badly but its in great standard original nick !!
Finnished the primer coat on the rear underside and started putting the suspension back on so I can turn the car round and paint from the rear floor pans forward, not putting the final top coat on till it comes back from paint as i'll just get overspray on it and all the suspensions coming back off anyway!
hopefully get things moving again over the next week!

Would love to have the time to come give you a hand mate. Hopefully next year when she's a bit older I'll be able to get my own project started. Might even rent a bit of that shed!!

watching this one closely building one for my mate so far 8 months 22 panels and copious amounts of 3m 2 pack stonechip plus lots of powdercoating and a splash of paint and it was only supposed to be a tidy up

Right, built the rear susp up and got the car back on 2 wheels so we could roll it out and spin it round so it was facing the other way to get the rest of the welding at the front done (yep still doing welding ) and paint the rest of the underside, dragged it out of its slot and heres how it stood while we tidied up:
Then reversed it back into its place:
got excited an stuck on my wings, scuttle panel lights an grill
inside
and the area to get cleaned prepped and painted now!
Not much happenin the now but over the next 5 days the whole underside should be WHITE
