well mate to be honest, it was SO CLEAN i got anal about driving it, the underside was as clean as the top and was in white, so i used go mad when it got a bit of dirt on it. i spent 3.5 years making it perfect, then i couldnt use it! lol tho i sold it for a 1949 beetle, and i also got a mk1 escort. then sold these to buy my escort cossie. and now i wana sell this to maby get another S1 .

i have a pic a few months before id totally finished it, body kit neede a bita adjusting etc. If i tell you when i bough mine all that existed past the bulkhead was one inner wing, u'll know how much pain i went through!!!



I i ask to to follow one bit of advise mate, then unless your going concourse, dont do the underside white. do it as it was from factory black sealer. i swear if i have done it to mine id have kept it!

Seriously cant do it black underneath, its deggo going white, new brake/fuel lines..not factory look at all but it will get used, prob not in shit weather no but it will get used trust me!!!

cool tis what i did after all. just make sure the engine has no leaks and dont forget to renew the gbox drive shaft seals, as this is what made a mess of mine, even tho they looked good as new, they most obviously wernt!

yeh mine was bad, bought it for Ł600 was just a shell and original engine and glass!!!

Good you for keeping the underside white!! Thats gonna take some care to keep it clean. Once ive got round to stripping and derusting(hopefully not too much although there was a puddle and very moist passenger footwell to deal with in mine nothing my sisters hairdryer didn't fix!!!) the underneath of mine its all going black far easier to look after and can't see the dirt as much unless its caked in mud which it oviously won't be. Can't help but admire people who are able to keep there cars minty fresh and make the badge of the older ford last that bit longer to many getting pranged and written off!!!!

Spammage, It will be mint when its done underneath, but fook keeping it clean...im jus doing it so I know it's done and is protected, doing it white cos I hate black!! might give it the odd clean jus so it doesnt go black!

Done a bit more tonight, david removed the pass side A pillar outer skin, wee plate to make at the bottom but the rest is mint and new panel can go on. Also removed a section from the top of the A pillar to replace with a bit from another car.

i had my whole car sandblasted for Ł500, was the best thing i did to it, saved hours of pissing around, and also helped me be sure that there was not 1% of rust anywhere on it!!!! id seriously advise this once all the weldings done.

they even zinc primer diped mine for an extra Ł50, so stop any new rust!!
just make sure they soft blast or it will warp the pannels or blow a hole in it like they did to my mk1 escort

as for under side i sprayed on 3 ltrs of white stone chip sort of a rubbery coating then dusted it with the diamond white 2pack. amazing finnish and flexible so it didnt chip crack!

Lee, sand blasting would of been ideal but initially didnt plan to go as far as I have and dont want to remove head lining (as silly as it sounds) but your right it would be the best thing to do!

underside will get that stonechip stuff, I'll prob just paint it on tho unless I get a loan of a shutz gun and compressor!

Looking good Davie will be mint when its done and with 250atw it will fly, if you havent been in Wul's one get him to take you out at the rr day.
I stonegaurd'd the underside of mine then painted it with white hammerite a few weeks ago, and now a quick jetwash keeps it clean.

you'll be supprised how accurate the old sandblasting boys are, they can normally work to a line if u need. my lads would charge me about Ł50 to do just the underside and engine bay, and prob another Ł20-30 to do the front and rear suspension parts.

if you do take headliner out its not a big job. in fact my rst was ripped all the way down middle, so i took one out from a rs16i in the scrappy and put it in my S1. took about 45mins to get it out, but wasnt difficult.

take off all the door,sunroof,window rubbers. then there will be a few small sprung steel clips, these are the buggers u need to be careful with as they are barrbed. ones theyre off. theres just 3 rods which locate in the roof. and bobs ur uncle.

you may be supprised at the sunroof tray. i did a lot of upside down wellding here. as u cant buy a replacement tray, annoying as theyre only bonded on. glad i fixed mine or it have had an in car shower every i washed it!
