![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Done a little bit just before the summer ended last year
Engine rebuild
Popped over to Dave at Cookie Monster Motorsport and we built up the
bottom end
Fitted all new heavy duty racing bearings, and squirted oil into every
possible orafice and lowered the crank into place
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08011.jpg)
Then fitted the main caps with new bearings and tightened to correct
torque, while turning the crank to make sure everything was turning
freely
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08012.jpg)
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08012.jpg)
Then used a dial test indicator to check the end float, which was spot on
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08014.jpg)
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08014.jpg)
We then spun the block over and started dropping the pistons in with all
new rings fitted. We also used a product called Graphogen, which is a
collidial paste and helps bed in the rings in the bores when the engine is
tight.
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08016.jpg)
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08017.jpg)
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08018.jpg)
Then fitted the big ends using ARP M8 bolts
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08019.jpg)
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08020.jpg)
Then fitted the oil pick up and breather pipe
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08021.jpg)
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/Enginebuild-7-9-08022.jpg)
And that was job done. Bottom end all rebuilt. Just waiting for sump
gasket to arrive from germany then i can fit the sump.
I couldnt resist checking out my creation so used some thin card as a headgasket and just temp dropped the head on inc inlet manifold and a
few other bits

Thing is, i have a confession to make, things have been on hold since the
mrs wanted a new decking area in the back garden, so this took nearly 2
months of nights after work in the summer to get done
From this

![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/GardenandHousePics001.jpg)
Then this little fella arrived on Oct 12th 2008, so took 5 months away
From the car so that i could enjoy his first precious moments as he will
always come first, no matter what.

So
Work will commence on the Rs on March 1st. Really want it done
now ready for MAYBE national Day 2009

Bit of an update.
After been in a lock up for over 12 months i popped down to make sure it was still in there LOL
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/IMAG0020.jpg)
![](http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a7/kristoff26/IMAG0021.jpg)
Reason its been in lock up is because i have been searching for near on 2 year for left and right genuine ford rear quarters but no joy![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
I did finda pair in greece but the cost of shipping was crazy.
Checked my White one was still there too![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
My plans are to fully strip down the white one, restore all the parts and fit to a new shell i bought from Andy (AJC)

This enables me to kick start the resto again but due to the white one needing a few months work i will complete this first then finally finish my red one.
Thanks for looking

I had any single screw and nut on my XR2 at least one time in my hands, so I'd probably tell you where they go. It's a little bit more difficult after zinc plating when they all look the same, but it's not tooooo hard.

When i dismantled every part, the bolts/nuts/washers etc for that part were pictured, bagged and logged on an excel spreadsheet.
Sounds propper anal i know but all the zinc items in the pic are back with the part the come from or hold up
