done that tonight, were suspecting its a fuel problem now as the maps set only so far but the car is perfect one minute then goes lean without nothing changing, i.e map, throttle position. were putting a fuel pressure gauge on it 2moro and taking it for a drive, suspect is the tank set up as it does the problem every couple of mins and if i pull over for a couple of mins it cures if i turn it off, but over heats if i dont where it gets lean?

you compression tested it etc then?, chips gave a good suspicion but till we get a fuel presure gauge on it later we wont be able to tele, think its the escos pump in the swirl pot not picking up fuel constantly?

after doing alot of painfully slow driving chip popped around last night and gave it a little mapping session on the way to southend meet, added a nice 10psi of boost and little more revs to the map, pulls lovely, i was over the moon

done a leak test and valves were leaking, gave it to steve boy slim to build up and appears it could be a case of zetec sticky valve syndrome but will find out for def 2mo , farnden rods going in 2mo too along with a ARP stud and nut kit, starter motor heas wrap shield, new lifters and a felpro head gasket . fingers crossed i get the head back 2mo

any reasons to back up why not to iuse the felpro one though? its an opinion on what to use, theres always an option of something better on an engine but there meant to be a good gasket

oh riteo, just looks a good gasket to me, metal too just like the focus rs so cant see any reason to why it would be know good, heard people swear by these, but dare say id find out it its bad lol, just thought perhaps yours may have gone due to your oil starvation and engine getting hot possibly?

gasket problems are usually caused by poor machining of the block and head faces (they have to be finished to 50RA or finer iirc), excess heat or detonation. the reason felpro have such a bad name in the ford scene is that people use the 2.0 cvh gasket for their zvh's, which isn't a turbo gasket and has thin fire rings, ultimately causing failures when people try to get power out of them.
felpro is just a gasket manufacturer like any other, thousands of people use them without problems. i'd be tempted to use a ford one, or payen, but only if your one fails.
