My WRC Escort Zetec/Cosworth Build

quick update, i went into work early today...
first job was to get my head on the serdi (seat cutting machine). i decided to de-shroud the area around the valves to allow for more air flow. i also topped the seats down my 0.5mm to get some more volume in the chamber:
the next job was to cut the throat out of the seat to help with my porting. here's a pic of it done, notice the 45 degree seat hasn't been machined yet, just incase i slip with the die grinder :
here's a pic of one chamber completely de-shrouded and with all throats cut
thats all for now!

Time for another update!
I’ve been hard at work once again! This time, I’ve managed to do a mock build of my engine to CC the area above the piston… which was hardly worth it as it was only sitting 5 thou below the block face when at tdc!
a pic of the crank in:
Then we decided to lower the height of the pistons to the depth of the bowl, as it was only just over 1mm deep.
Before and after:
After this was done, we cc’d it again, it turned out at about 10cc above the piston… this means that currently with the unmodified heads, the black top will make 8.98:1 and the silver top will make 8.5:1. I’d really like to use the black top head, as it uses solid lifters as standard, but it will need a lot to come out of it to match the silver top one, let alone better it!
I may try modifying one BT chamber tomorrow, to see what numbers I can make. I’ve managed to pick up another whole engine for ~£40, so if I screw it up, I’ve still got a spare!
here are some random pics of the blacktop block from all angles... notice it only has one core plug
thats all for now, hopefully more tomorrow!

unfortunately my boss makes me work for him in the day... which is very inconsiderate of him . i tinker when i get the chance though, either lunch times or after work.
the good news is that i can now build the bottom end, as i have all of the necessary parts . My ACL bearings arrived this week and my billet geared oil pump is on its way from Will @ MSD .
All i need to do is to balance the crank and front pulley, then it's pretty much ready to be built!
i've started to modify the combustion chamber to try for some more volume, but i haven't re-measured it yet, so can't tell if its made the difference i needed. i've also spoken to cometic about making a 2mm head gasket, which will help considerably

It's about time for another update!
i've been majorly busy this week... where to start? ah yes, the block!
ARP's fitted:
bearings fitted and crank laid in (note bearings are covered in graphogen):
and a view from underneath of it all in place:
i also refitted my bore jets:
and got my pistons and rods fitted after a while gapping the rings :
now for the head... i've been playing around with the die grinder in my shed and i came up with this:
it dosen't look the prettiest, but thats mostly because it's covered in shite
now... i've been looking into double valve springs lately (mainly because there is likely to be an extra 30lb of pressure on the back of the valves when closed), but they're a shite load of money because of the work involved
i'm going to have a crack at making my own instead here are my new guides modified to take vauxhall stem seals:
here's what the originals look like:
fitted into the head:
when fitting new guides, the valve often dosen't seat as it should, so they all require cutting again (which needed doing anyway), so i managed 4 angles on all of the seats:
thats all for now, i'm pretty pleased with what i've got done so far

Right, i'm back in business! I've managed to keep the car for now, so am going to build it on a budget... a very tight one! Unfortunately most of my good bits went on ebay to pay the bills, so i'm going to have to source alot of new bits and skimp in areas that i wouldn't have before.
first up is the engine - it's been sold! so in its place, i'll be using another zetec with some vauxhall pistons. i may try for a t28 or t3 setup at first to reach 300ish hp.
the awesome brakes have also gone! but lady luck stepped in this week and gave me some free 4x4 cossie calipers they'll be fine for my first engines power!
the AVO's will probabably go on ebay, to be replaced by some Koni's (not sure if i'll use 2wd or 4wd suspension yet).
basically i'm going to try to build a nice neat, but different 'escos'
