not much has been done over the week, but here's what has:

front wing removed again for rust proofing and trying to get a better fit:

i beadblasted my pistons and degreased my rods:

thats all really! i've already cleaned my plenum and other parts, ready for fresh paint:

these came courtesy of graham goode:

and this turbo and manifold was supplied to me at a descent price thanks to DS Motorsport, a proper spec .63 t34:

thats it for now, hopefully i'll get some bits done this weekend!

another update! been busy this afternoon! got a few bits on the car and out of my shed at last! first came the weatherstrips on the doors, then the mirrors to try to stop water getting in from outside:

then came fitting the spoiler thanks to (a very camera-shy) steves24v's and my friend rich

then we fitted another trim piece:

we also fixed the stiff bonnet catch and started to cut the vent holes out in the wings, so a pretty productive afternoon by my standards!

progress has been slow on the escort of late... so slow infact that i haven't done anything at all! i've been considering using a zetec instead of a YB due to its size and weight differences, but if i was to use one it would need to be a cgi block and a st170 head...

well today the ford god sent me a gift in the way of this:

it cost me NOTHING! free from work or it was going in the skip!! the more eagle eyed of you will probably have spotted the hole in the side of the main bearing carrier, where the engine had a suspected rod thrown, otherwise it looks fine!

i'm facing a real dilemma now... do i sell the YB parts to fund this, or build this slowly and throw a 400hp YB in temporarily?

hmmm...........

small update for you guys, the osf wing has been fitted for good (i hope)

pics:

i'm seriously tempted to ditch the YB and build a zetec turbo with around 600bhp as it would cost around the same with the bits i'd want to use in the cossie. it would hopefully be revvier too, i'd aim for peak power above 8k

now i just need somebody to calculate me a top speed using the later scorpio 5th gear and 18" 225/35's

i just think the st zetec looks awesome

well. despite not bieng able to decide what engine to use, i've been busy at work this week with the YB head...

so far, i've stripped it, bead blasted it, checked valve spring rates and bead blasted and polished the valves like so:

i've still got plenty of work to do, i'm going to tap all the threads, do some basic porting, knurl and ream the guides, weld any corrosion on the head face before skimming it to a finish plenty good enough for a cometic gasket (50 RA or finer), cut the seats, face the valves, polish the valve stems, and then check the valve heights before assembly. the followers and the cams are in the process of bieng reconditioned too.

should hopefully have it done by next friday if all goes to plan

another bit of good news came to light at work today though... there might be another ST170 engine coming back to only get thrown away! i wonder where that will end up?!?!

steve - erm... no!

still unsure on what engine to use, but i've been getting on with the YB at work

i've bead blasted the chambers and ports -

then begun to port the head, starting with removing the big ridges on the inlet side -

then the exhaust -

then i started to mod the inlet side to a knife edge, from this -

through this -

to this! -

meanwhile, i've been tidying my shed (okay, so it dosent look perfect, but i couldn't even see the floor before!) -

thats all for now! let me know what you think!

been hard at it today! as you can see, the porting work is finished -

so i started by facing 2 thou off the head -

unfortunately there was some det and corrosion left as in the first pic, so i had it welded as in the second -

and here is the finished product -

all ready for cutting the seats now! after that, it'll be time to build it

Pukka work mate.

I might have a head for you to look at after seeing your welding up trick

Came off the Transworth

Get that ST170 engine and use it as a doorstop, then get the "real" engine and fit that, you KNOW it makes sense

update time!

the parts i ordered have arrived! i have aqquired a 4x4 oil pump, plus a pace WRC intercooler!

next, i've finished off that o/s front wing finally, i sprayed the holes that i drilled:

i also got the die grinder out and cut the vents in the rear of the wings:

the wing went back on:

then i fitted the sideskirt front in place :

thats it for now, i'm going to order some stainless bolts for the wings and spoiler, plus i'm going to have to make some pipework and bracketry for my intercooler...

unfortunately they'll have to go when the brake disks arrive... they're an inch bigger than the wheels!
