Its actually quite a good simple idea. The ideas been around for a few years now. Mainly in the Yank scenes. Take one 1950s car then cut the shell off and weld it onto a 1980s onwards chassis. Get all the brakes, pas, engine mounts in 1 go. So all the reliability of a modern car and the looks of an old classic.
Good Luck, any more progress pics. Was there any difference in the track of the cars (Escort vs Sierra) or are the wheels gonna stick out a little from the arches?

Probably wont be able to get much more done now before xmas. Its still as the last pics at the mo.
Rich W,
the track is a little wider. but only just noticable. Gona try and keep it looking as standard as poss from outside, so the 15", s1, 7 spoke alloys. or 3 door cossie wheels wont make the wider track stand out so bad as if it had 17"s on.
Hopefully the only other noticable difference will be the front callipers will be at the back of the disc instead of the front, and the rear discs, instead of drums.
Wheel centres are about 4" shorter so ill have to lob a bit out of the prop shaft and get it re ballanced.
I'll keep ya posted

Lee, how are you getting on with this??
Done any more to it at all?
you going to use the full independant rear beam or a solid axle?
can we have some more pics please of the engine bay mate, from the sides and stuff please......and some pics of the floor inside, even if its all just resting an place??
How are yuou planning on mounting the rear beam, did you not want to try transfering across the rear section of floor also, with R/Beam pickups??
Sorry for all the Q's mate.... but my mind is drifting towards a similar project

Not done any more to this one yet, will get cracking in the summer!
Did plan to use the full inderpendent susp of a cossie, although Harvey at SCS sugested otherwise and to use a 2.8 capri rear axil and rose joints. (got plenty of time to decide b 4 i get that far)
Havent taken any more pics, but there are some i havent posted yet and some of it before i decided to turn it into a rear wheeler
The story is that i was doing it for a friend, He had a Mercury grey S2 with rusty front pannel, wings and rear pannel but suprisingly spotless untouched rear arches.
He asked me to help him replace the pannels and then he was going to give the car a full respray.
He then decided that he wanted to put S1 pannels on and paint it white to have an "E" plate S1. (intending to put the RST engine back in)
Thinking it was a good idea and after he spent well over Ł500 on genuine Ford pannels, i put them on for him. no probs.
Then came time to paint the shell and fit the S1 kit and put it back on the road.
This was when i found he jus couldnt be bothered any more (not that he did anything anyway lol ) and got stuck with a shell in ma garage!
"moan moan moan dont know what to do with it" so i said one day when he was in one of his funny moods ill give ya Ł100 for it. lol
He said Ł150 and its yours! lol With a mint S1 body kit inc tow eye cover.
SOLD!
So thats why, as it only cost me Ł150 id wanted to do something a bit different,
RWD/4WD "E" reg S1.

cheers for those and the info, keep em coming
That an XR4x4 shell??
I'd like to see more of the car mate Pleeeaaase, like the engine bay, just to see where you have made the cuts.... anything you wouldnt have cut or done differently if done again??
What reasons were there behind using a solid rear axle over the std cossie beam setup??
Cheers for yer help mate...

Dont know about the plastic pipe, but my guess is that it would be better if it didnt go into the sill at all, and found a place for it to come out under the car.
About the drain holes , ill take some pics for ya and post them on here tomorrow for ya

Have to hold ya Horses fella. do it as soon as i can. There is a bit of rust on the inner sills
i need to plate before i can weld in the floor. It will be easier if i can do this first. Then i need to have a propper
measure up before the first tack weld to make sure its in the right place.
Im proper motivated now the weather is warming up!
