Well there was 1.4 track prep'd one behind me at Ford Fair. It fucking flew..

Apparently it was ripping up the track, on slicks, proflex suspension etc!

It looked lovely.

No updates this hour.. just sorting out how I'm going to get the seats to fit..

Oh, ordering a new AVO coilover tomorrow, and some harnesses......

Things I need to do:

1) Strip front carpets out of car.
2) Fit the seats.
3) Rear strutbrace fitted.
4) Fit new AVO.
5) Strip the sound deadening.
6) Polybushes.......

Few other bits obviously, but that's for now, and hopefully will be sorted for Trax!

Nice one mate watched you on track on sunday and was well impressed, Great job you're doing with it,

Oh and did that white mk2 xr2 ever leave the track on sunday? he must have spent a grand on track sessions lol

I'll keep my eye on this thread from now on, What 16's are you after mate? Are you up for px'ing your 17's for some or just a straight cash buy? cheers, Grant

I'd possibly Part X my 17s for some

Not too arsed on what 16s tbh, as long as they're not blingy chrome, and look half decent!

Thanks! It was my first time on track! so was quite daunting!

Nice project, doing something very similar on my mk3.

Bit of advice you might want to try.

With the sound deadening (bitumen) I was using a hot air gun. Found this just made it soft and more likely to smug across the panel.

I found pouring boiling water on it made it blister off mega easy.

Then leave to dry and a bit of wire wool and white sprits for the left overs

Obviously have some newspaper or towels to mop up quick.

Was it blue and green with a sort of liquid fade? you'll know what I mean if it was this car. If so that is #13 off here. Saw him race at snetterton one day and he was absolutely flying

No, that wasn't it, it was blue and yellow, seen it a few times before..

It flew! Was lovely, and you could see how much suspension matters, it''s a 1.4 zetec, with a cat back exhaust only!!

Also can only change the discs and pads for the brakes! HAVE to be the same size as originals..

Proflex and Slicks are for winners...

Right! Little update..

Went to Demon Tweeks this weekend and bought this baby!

Name: DSCF1940Small.jpg
Views: 213
Size: 29.1 KB

Fitted it looks like this...

First thoughts are ACE Grippy little thing, feels like a new car.. and like a go kart, as the wheel is slightly smaller!

Then we set about making THIS..

Name: DSCF1914Small.jpg
Views: 233
Size: 78.9 KB

Into a rear strutbrace

The top peice was the mounts, and it was welded up, and fitted..

Here it is just cooling down from a welding session!

Name: DSCF1950Small.jpg
Views: 218
Size: 84.4 KB

Then painted and fitted...

Name: DSCF1960Small.jpg
Views: 213
Size: 50.3 KB
Name: DSCF1962Small.jpg
Views: 224
Size: 51.9 KB

I was a bit sceptical about what it'd do.. Previously the back end was a little twitchy due to there being nothing in the rear, I took it for a spin after the strut brace was fitted and wow! It just goes around corners now

The back end feels so much more secure and tight... Awesome peice of kit and cheapish to make too

Thanks - Sikora from ZSOC, for the welding, messuring etc!

Next up.. SEATS! and a new coilover........

Had lots to do this weekend!

Started by stripping out the car,

Removed all interior, lots of wiring that wasn't needed etc.. and the amp for the front speakers, which are now running off the HU..

Name: DSCF2004Small.jpg
Views: 225
Size: 51.6 KB

Name: DSCF2006Small.jpg
Views: 240

All carpets and shite out, and bags full of shit..

Size: 72.0 KB

Name: DSCF2009Small.jpg
Views: 222

Time to play with Fire! Blow torching all the sound deadening out, it's basically tarmac!

Size: 59.1 KB

Name: DSCF2027Small.jpg
Views: 209

Lots of unnessecary wiring.....

Sound deadening on the roof, decided not to remove this, because we might of bubbled the paint on the roof.

Name: DSCF2014Small.jpg
Views: 208
Size: 36.9 KB

Everything removed, we set about with some Satin Black Hammerite to paint the floor, only did one coat this weekend, will do another next.. Did this to tidy it up, make it look a little more pleasent!

Size: 59.7 KB

Name: DSCF2031Small.jpg
Views: 216

Bought a little fire extinguiser, and just bolted this behind handbrake, but will be removed next weekend and repositioned as it catches on the passenger seat.

Name: DSCF2037Small.jpg
Views: 212
Size: 59.7 KB

Then we bolted in the harnesses, just to see how they look really, will be out again next weekend, to be fitted to the new seats..

Name: DSCF2058Small.jpg
Views: 210
Size: 51.7 KB

Name: DSCF2061Small.jpg
Views: 207

Saturday 26/8 the car will be going in for it's new damper fitted, full powerflex bush kit fitted and a new n/s wishbone...

Then working all weekend trying to get the new seats in, and hopefully some foamex to cover up the rear panels....

good effort mate, i remember seeing urs parked up at the ZSOC stand (if that was u)

that white mk2 did wicked on the track, proper cheap track car, saw u out on track wiv the 1.4, id love his suspension but its something around £2000 for that setup so no for me!

1 question, is it common for avos to do that? im lookin into gettin coils soon n weighting up the different makes, gonna b avo or gaz or the top end weitec as these r the only ones in my budget!

btw im hopin to get my zetec on track at trax so might see ya (wont b to good tho as itll be my first go and the car is on standard shocks and pi springs and needs new brakes before i go lol)

Looking good mate. try and get the mounting point for the harnesses dead centre though as if it's off one side will pull more than the other which will fook you off in the end

Hi mate.. Yeah it was on the ZSOC stand..

The Ford Credit Championship car was awesome, it's on Proflex, which is something like 2k!

I think it is common for AVOs to do this.. bit of a pisser really, but it handles well with them on.. and I'll be on the track at Trax in two sessions, so you could possibly see me out there.

AGAR-COSWORTH
Prep work before paint - just cleaned it all with white spirit, all the sound deadening removed etc!

TBH the finish isn't spot on, there ARE brush marks, but it can't be helped, it's more there to make it tidy, it's not a show car afterall.. Going to give it another coat next weekend!

89XR2

The harnesses arn't being used at the moment Very loose as we've not adjusted them, just put them in to see what they're like. until the new seats arrive

Cheers everyone!

Copied from another forum

Yesterday I took a trip to ZOO Motorsport.. where animals are bord n bred!

My front drivers side coilover had popped.. so I bought a new one from AVO direct..

They've changed there design, so at it's highest point the car is as low as it can safely be..

Anyway that was fitted, and then Brom went to work on the rear beam

That ^ is the standard rear beam.. the original joints flex, due to the bushes, so when the back end goes round a corner, as you start to straighten up, it'll flex back into place.

Brom added some rose joints onto the rear beam, which basically stiffens up the rear massively.

It's adjustable too, which was sorted by Brom.

While the work was being done, I was being supplied with brews, and being able to get a bit closer to this beast! Running around 600bhp, only 4 standard suspension parts on it, well not standard, just uprated! everything else suspension wise has changed.. Engine pushed 11 inches back.. it's AWESOME. and check the size of that ITG air filter...

On the ramps...

Few saph cossies lying around..

Rear beam off and being worked on in the background..

One rose joint made up..

Both rose joints on, welded up and sprayed

All bolted up..

And connected to the car.....

Not really had a chance to drive it properly yet, as it was wet, but it feels really really stable.. going to Wales today for a good blast, with a friend in his Racing Puma.. we'll see how she does

Also, the seats came today.. properly comfy, and I'm so glad I went for the WIDE version..

UPDATE: tried fitting the seats, and the adapter bars supplied by cobra don't fit..

So they'll be going in next weekend as I'm having some made up..

Oh and I got a cracking deal on some ST170 rear brakes..

Discs, pads, calipers, hubs, backing plates, and RS2000 handbrake cable...

£130
