Default Touring Cars @ Brands Hatch - Sun 5th June 2005 (vid added)

Hello all,

Went to watch the touring cars at Brands Hatch today - was the best touring car day I've been to yet!

Video now added (right click and save target as - 10Mb - DivX codec is needed):

Brands Hatch highlights

SEAT cup car dash:

SEAT cup race 1:

Formula Renault race 1:

BTCC race 1:

(safety car and doctor's car following)

Lucky escape for one of the SEAT's!

More racing...

Not such a lucky escape for one of the Halford's Honda's - seriously outbraked himself into paddock! Stopped before the barrier though

Formula BMW race 1:

The BTCC cars have the pits for the day - all the other races enter the track from the paddock - and today they had the pits open to meet the drivers and see the cars up close

Just a little bit busy!

Gavin Smith's Vauxhall (it's handy when the garage is labelled! )

Matt Neal being interviewed by a TV presenter:

Gavin Smith, Colin Turkington and Yvan Muller - the 3 VXR racing drivers giving out autographs

Dunlop had loads of fitty's handing out free baseball caps - me and my mate Neil managed to get Yvan Muller to autograph them for us

Managed to get the Team SEAT driver's autographs too I was going to ask Jason Plato for VBH's mobile number but thought better of it

Rob Collard and his kid

It threatened to rain all day but it managed to stay dry throughout all the racing!

The start/finish 'straight' :

Me looking like a lemon topped doughnut!

BTCC race 2:

We saw alot of this throughout the BTCC racing! (especially race 2):

I swear his brake lights weren't working officer!

More racing

Someone's made a whoopsy!

Some lovely Caterham Super Seven's parked up just off Druids

Closest thing I've seen to a flying pig!

Clio Cup racing - looks like alot of fun

Focus ST170

Brand new Golf GTi - car and wheels look lovely together

Porsche Carrera Cup race:

SEAT cup race 2:

Formula BMW race 2:

BTCC race 3:

Unfortunately these things weren't racing

That's about as much use the GP part of the circuit gets nowadays

Lovely Ferrari (550 or 575 Maranello?)

The Caterham's from above

Nice looking VW Golf R32

Formula BMW's ready to be loaded back up into the lorry

GT Heritage racing - not sure about the GT bit for the Talbot Alpine and the Mk2 Escort but still great to see them racing, I especially loved the Mk2 Escy racing against the Rover SD1, brilliant stuff

As we were leaving we saw this parked up - very very nice

You can view all the other photo's (there are a few I didn't post ) by clicking the link below:

Brands Hatch 05/06/2005 Photobucket folder

I'll edit a short vid of all the best bits from the camcorder footage and upload it later on this week

Great day - but now I'm knackered!

Cheers,

Andy

Pics look wicked mate, I watched all the races on telly yesterday and the last one was live!

Should have got VBH's phone number would could of all had a go!

That Ferrari is a 550 I believe

You must have seen Rob Collard go off into the gravel on the last race being positioned on that corner, bet it looked pretty cool!

Looks like a really good day out.

Was watching the coverage yesterday - the guy in the Honda that went off claimed he had no-where to go - funny how they always make up excuses

The last BTCC race i went to was Knockhill 2000 with the Supertouring Mondeos - it was class, imight go again this year.

Shame the GP track isn't used at Brands anymore since its one of the best trakcs IMO

Thanks for the nice comments guys - was a good day.

Agree with AGAR about the GP circuit - would be nice to see it put to proper use again.

The commentators over the tannoy couldn't start until 10am yesterday because of noise regulations, meaning you had to work out what was going on in the first SEAT cup race yourself!

Surely if people don't like noise they wouldn't buy a house right next door to a race-track?

Cheers,

Andy

Yeah - good racing!

Henry Taylor is racing in the series and doing quite well this year - he's pretty local to me and a few friends of mine know him, always good to watch someone you know racing! If I was to race in a series I think the SEAT cup is something I'd love to do

Post the pics of the cars up if you find them mate!

Cheers,

Andy

Yeah - Plato is a very busy man with all the racing/TV appearances he does! Good driver as well.

Yvan Muller is probably the most naturally talented race driver in the BTCC at the moment Did you see him recover from that slide in the BTCC round at Thruxton - how the hell did he get it back!

Cheers,

Andy

Agreed with Muller's driving ability - but as concerns Plato hes a bit of a c*nt Renound for pushing people off, when he could have lifted slightly to avoid them - some might say its all about winning but its bad sportsmanship IMO.

Yeah - some of his moves have been a bit dubious to say the least!

Him and Yvan Muller do have quite a big rivalry thing going on though - great to watch on track!

Andy
