although many of the dagenham workers at ford hated the job, once the plant went all you hear from those that worked there was they missed it , as ford created dagenham the town really, was very lucky to visit the plant in my teens when I was a young fresh ford employee and was left speechless at the size of it

Not much left of the place now, thet are looking to put a new train station and 3000+ houses on what was the car storage sites, Rainham end of where Fords was.
My Dad did 20+ years there, grandparents came over from Ireland to Dagenham due to the work at Fords, along with alot of their family at the time.
Was all I wanted to do really, leave school at 16 and get an apprentiship there, fortunatly didn't get in, and got a job @ 16 on the railway, which I still have almost 19 years later now! Wouldn't still be working at Fords had I got the grades and got in!
