I know a guy that was at testing and he said they seem very slow and the sound is crap.......... i for one who loves going to the F1 am gutted as the noise added to the event
Cars are slower due to none of them being optimised for performance yet, they are also operating in colder than usual temperatures and they are on special 'winter test' tyres from pirelli
Expect the laptimes in Race 1 to be comparable to that of last year
Don't like the 'new' noise at all. As said already, to me, and a lot of other people, it kills the atmosphere and changes a key part of F1. Change for the sake of change....
You haven't seen them in anger yet! Testing is all smoke and mirrors! Nobody wants to show there hand yet. You wait until the first round. I guess in race trim they will run about 45 psi
Lol at people saying they are slower, Theyre kicking out the same bhp as last years.
Winter testing is all about reliability and racking up the laps. You won't see teams risking flat laps when they have very little spares with them at Jerez should a driver shunt it.
Have the people who say they don't like the sound of these engines ever heard them in person, or just on the videos etc? I bet the engines sound wicked when your actually watching them round track. When your watching these cars for real the difference in sound is like night and day, that's what I realised.
Someone who has been bought up on turbo cars I think they sound better this year,
No one will notice if they are 5seconds a lap slower.
Mark
Can't see them being slower than last year, they have more overall power and triple the torque. Just wait until they get the mapping all sorted. Testing means nothing!
Did anyone see Sky F1 Ted's Diary last night? They played a clip of the Ferrari coming into the pits and swithching off, then there was a turbine like sound for about 30 seconds as the turbo slowed down and the TERS/HERS? shut down. Sounded awesome
I also think that as they are only reported to be using 10-11k rpm that with 24 at the full 15k rpm on raceday it will sound like the early 80's, the reputed golden age of F1. Cant wait
