Not an 8/9, but here's my TME.
But for parity and to comply with the thread title, here's my mate Gaz's 8 MR340.

IV-VI are the best looking. VII is the better looking of the '3rd' generation of lancer.
To be honest i'd say VIII is my least favorite due to the front bumper/grille.
If you are looking for an Evo, VI would be my choice.
I had an Evo as a daily driver a few years ago.

The maintenance on them isn't as bad as people think tbh especially if you can change the oil and ayc fluid yourself parts are pretty reasonable.

I used to work in a garage a few years back and we had a evo 8 in.It needed rear brake discs and from the main dealer they were 300 quid each. The garage got some mickey mouse ones for 300 quid a pair.

I dont like the 5 n 6s I think the rear arch extension/kit looks daft cause its not on the front either.

Standard discs are 130 for rears and 140 for fronts all main dealers are rip offs! That is through the mlr though supplied by indigo gt I think.

was the question for me Mick ?
I am really pleased with mine, just love driving it and find any excuse I can to take it for a spin. Think it might need a clutch soon and would like to get some Alcons or Aps for it. if you get another would you go for a 9 ? The Gt looks spot on.

How do people find them to live with?
Do you find yourself in the engine bay or underneath it for something every other weekend or are they reiable?
Whats the economy like?
My dad had a 5 for a while that did about 18mpg and was a little cantankerous. It never really broke down but was always niggly issues with it.

Never had any issues with mine, the only person under the bonnet was the main dealer for a service or Mark Shead to tweak it
