Default My new to me Orion Ghia

Hello all

I left fords for a while and went jap and German but I've seen the light and gone back to good old fords!!

Got this yesterday from Kent loved every second of the drive home to Lowestoft smiled all the way!!

It's a 1600i ghia 115k it had cambelt and water pump done 4 months ago new leads and plugs 2 weeks ago when it had oil and filter change and also gearbox oil was done too. It's so clean literally 3 scabs of rust on entire car has been owned by enthusiasts for years and I got it from the owner of Medway RS Centre it's fully wax oiled and its mint in battery tray sills ect

Couple of tastefull mods 4 branch manifold full Ashley stainless system and lowered 30mm on gmax shocks and springs they've got ford stamped on them so possible factory extra?? Still got oringinal stereo and amp and dealer Dunlop spare!

Anyway enough talking the pics.

Cheers guys I love it!! Debating whether to keep it 1600i or do an rs turbo conversion just for a little more ooooomph not sure yet though as I think it might be better to leave it as is.

It's still got original immobiliser too the headphone jack type!!

The 1600 Ghia was the same engine as the 3i wasn't it? As in power I mean (105 brake IIRC)

Can't say I'm a fan of the brown interior (or exterior for that matter) but you cannot deny that's in superb condition!

I loved my 3i - wasn't really quick, but it was nippy. Always fancied an Orion (later on I had a mk5 Escort saloon, which they didn't badge as an Orion) as I like the saloon shape, but wasn't a fan of the rear doors. Shows I'm getting old now that I barely entertain the idea of cars without rear doors anymore - and I don't even have kids!

I think with something as clean and tidy as that, it'd be better to leave as is rather than engine swaps and major mods. That said, where's the fun in standard?

Not a fan of the colour inside tbh but love it being so tidy, got some tasteful mods. I'd not touch a thing overall.

G reg and running on the Bosch setup....must have been an early G reg
back in the day of 1989 I had a D reg on the Bosch
I then got a new G reg around late 1990 which was running the Ford EEC-IV set up
how times change.....

It's great you all know so much about fords!!

Thanks for your comments guys I get asked about it everywhere I go old boys love it!

Think I'm going to leave it as it is now and just keep on top of maintenance and get the little scabs sorted out. I'm going to have to update the speakers though I'm going to get ones that fit inside original speaker holes and under the trim if you get me.

Also anyone recommend a good alarm system??

IIRC that was only fitted for 10months, i had a H plate with it. It then went to the new shape.

I did exactly that in one of mine, i mounted the speakers underneath and left the original grilles in place. There's not a lot of room though as the apertures are awkward with the metal work underneath i think.

I'd try finding a decent trimmer, see if they can get the trim off the front seats to go onto some Recaros...
Think they'd look cool...
Lovely example...
