Default 9 Second Mk1 Escort - Classic Ford Show

My Dad's Mk1 Escort, First time out with the new turbo set-up running at low boost and the first run off the trailer was a 9.51 at 141 mph We wasn't expecting this at all and backing it up with 3 other 9 second runs was even better

That's a Liberty 'box - semi sequential ratchet shifter thing.

Awesome time from your dad - I didn't get a chance to give him my congrats, I will do next time.

What was he expecting first time out out of interest? Does he think there's an 8 in the car?

It was mapped by Gordon at Street Racers in Leicester -http://streetracersgd.co.uk/

My Dad built the engine himself and always has built his own engines, infact all the car has been done himself apart from paint and bodywork

It was running 20psi this weekend but on the rolling road it was mapped at 29psi which made 608hp

Thanks Simon, None of us expected a 9 on the first time out, he just wanted to get back to the mid or low 10s as it was with the old engine, we couldn't believe it when the 9 came up on the timing board

It's hard to say if theres an 8 in the car, the slicks were abit too skinny so there was alot of wheelspin as you can see him fighting with the wheel on the in-car camera, we hope with wider slicks and more boost the times will come down

The car is a good advert for both Gordon and your Dad's skills .

Before you start doing any high boost runs, I'd pressure check the system as those Mikalor clamps are prone to leaking above 20psi. They don't tighten up evenly, so the air pressure finds the weak point and pisses out. Swap for some normal stainless-steel jubilee clips and you should be okay (but at the very least, forewarned is forearmed) .

And watching the vids again, it's obviously not a normal gearbox, as he's just pulling the lever back and forwards and not moving it across any gate - so what's that all about ?

They use a lift-up ratchet style shifter so it's just back and forth to go through the gears, no H-pattern gate, so semi sequential style.

Amazing car, your dad's done a great job of the Engine, getting in the 9's is some achievement!

I never realized the GF5R's were rated to such power, they must take some abuse!

That is from experience (and using the correct sized items). Dave Jackson's Time Attack could never hold it's peak boost - I noticed these in his engine bay after hearing him complain, and just told him to swap those over. He managed to find replacement banjos in his service truck, swapped them all over and instantly regained his missing 0.5 bar.
