I'm sorry to hear that.

But seeing as we own virtually the same type of dog you will know bull breed dogs are famed for ignoring things around them and not responding. Dogs in the pic were waiting on a dog returning to pack.

Plus all dogs owners from the pack are experienced dogs men and breeders, id like to think we know when is right and wrong to unleash the dogs.

Hats off to you if they're all that well behaved, i can 'appreciate' dogs too but can see why some people might be slightly intimidated coming across so many dogs of that stature.
The thread title is a little misleading imo that's all and doesn't come across as a 'here are my dogs, aren't they beautfiul' kind of thread, hence why i asked what would happen if i bumped into them!
Nice looking dogs all the same

Dave i own a business working with dogs on a daily basis, The last thing i would need is bad publicity.

Check my site out and you can see the same dogs on there.

www.pets2move.co.uk

I also run numerous bulldog shows with various people across the uk each year attracting people from all over europe. As mentioned before would do me no good.

As John has already said, if needs be they can be called back and returned to their leads. Just seeing a pack of dogs off their leads does not automatically mean that they are about rip the next living thing apart that they encounter.
Two nights ago i was walking my dog and a couple walking a Jack Russell stopped me as their dog wanted to say hello (in doggy terms) to my dog and they told me about a Rottweiler that was off its lead and had attacked a Staffordshire Bull Terrier not far from where we were standing and she turned her nose up and implied that all Rottys are dangerous, when she said that i told her she was being unfair towards the breed as i am in a similar position with my breed regarding the fact that people think they are dangerous (which they are not) and are never prepared to give them a chance. I went on to tell her that the problem lies with the owner not the dog. If an owner knows his dog is likely to attack other dogs then obviously it should not be off its lead but i can honestly say that i don't think John is the sort of owner that would endanger other dogs (or his own) in public, he obviously knows his dogs characters better than anyone. On all of the dog related posts that he has contributed to he only ever comes across as the type of guy that other owners could take a leaf from, he most certainly doesn't seem like the sort of person that would do anything to harm other peoples dogs or the reputation of the bulldog breed.

Thanks John, makes great reading. I first started to read about James Hinks in 1986 when I had my first bully, fascinating how he developed the breed. One story that springs to mind was when an owner of a bully took it with him to the local swimming baths. Upon seeing it's master 'swallowed up' by the water when he dived in, the dog leaped straight into the pool and proceeded to drag it's owner by the hair to the side of the pool to 'save him' - superb!

I know this and I totally agree, but as I said, my elderly mother didn't know this, as would a lot of people that aren't dog savvy like us

Very nice looking Bulldogs, they don't look too exaggerated and have nice conformation, no bowed front legs there.

John - Ade, this is my bull Terrier, bred back to resemble some of the early dogs...

All the dogs in this thread are lovely looking, credit to their owners!

I have always wanted an English Bull Terrier because I think they have such a unique face and I have heard and read lots of very good things about the breed.

Good looking Bulldogs John. Good to see a bit of muzzle and a not too undershot jaw. Your Alfie is actually quite similar in type to my Staffy bitch, that says alot (in a good way). What's best is their weight and condition (partiularly Alfie), too many fat Bulldogs around.

Thanks John and Ade for the comments about my BT.

I keep them fit and a good diet all whats needed. They generally do a 8 mile run/walk 3 times a week and a few miles the other 4.

But presumably that is due to peoples ignorance rather than because he is nasty. My misses used to be wary of my dad's Stafford because she had no experience of them but now we have our own and she has first hand experience of their true temperament and character she is not in the least bit intimidated by them.
The point i'm trying to get across, and it's not aimed specifically at you Ade, is the fact that it's not fair for people to judge dogs purely on their appearance. Yes, if a dog comes at you baring its teeth and growling then you have a right to form an opinion that it's potentially a dangerous dog but if your opinion is just based on the fact that it looks like it goes to doggy gym for 6 hours a day then the chances are your opinion is wrong.
As said before Ade this is not directed at you but it gets on my tits when people jump to conclusions based on breed and build alone whether it be Staffords, Bull Terriers, Bulldogs, Rottweilers, Dobermans etc.
