Default Stealthy VR6 daily abuse wagon - Few pics.

Got this a couple of months ago... Was advertised as smoking on over run, suspect stem seals. Had a 90 odd mile drive home and it lasted about 40 before a funny noise started, sounded like a thrust bearing and it went away with the clutch down and low load. 10 miles later it dumped all the coolant somewhere without any leaving the bay and lost drive, wasn't hopeful!

Stripped it down in the morning and found I was missing a piston... Was fully prepared for it to die on the way back but thought that at £500 for a VR6 with Audi TT brakes, working heated concept leather, KW V2's, alacantara trim etc, it was worth it even if it died!

But since then no real issues, apart from driveshaft bolts working loose on the drivers side? Random, but bodged it enough to get me home at 4am, all sorted now. Gets its head kicked in and seems to deal with it, never really been a fan of Golfs but quite attached to this! Now a bit lower and sorting a Vento front end, and cable tie stitched splitter after taking it out on everything.

Can't grumble at it costing £500 sheets and the cost of replacement engine.

Cheers,

Indeed, had a bit of tax and MOT left on it too - Engine cost £125, bit of a gamble with no idea on how many miles were on it but seems to be holding up fine luckily.

It's not too bad really, got three or so mates with them and all theirs are crap - I seem to do ~50 miles to £10 if driven normally. Done Southampton to Santa Pod and back on £60, which included a couple of other trips... Worked out to 37mpg or something, was fairly impressed!

Managed to lose my license for 6 months thanks to a totting up ban, so the girlfriend's using it lately. Our 10 week old baby LOVES the noise of it and smiles at the little bumps that are exagerated by the suspension... Little petrol head already

Been playing about with remapping the standard ECU... Managed to iron out a few of the flat spots it had and gain a hefty chunk of economy!

Managing to get between 40-43mpg on a gentle cruise now, happy with that! Just need to get a sump after it met the floor during a bit of spirited driving

That was in a million pieces in the sump, water ways and inlet Not bad for an engine that only had 18,000 miles on it after a hefty rebuild!

Surprisingly it didn't damage the head AT ALL, still looked brand new lol

I was lucky to get another 6 and not a lot more of a pain in the ass... Basically had a bit of an incident with an MR2 Turbo and a Scooby. Joined the motorway at 110 or so (In front of a Police car) and carried on to 140+. They only managed to get me on Vascar at 107 after I'd slowed down but the video quite clearly shows the kind of speeds I was doing.

That's my spanner gimp! Handy to prepare engine bays for engine installation whilst I curse at how much of a heavy pig VR6's are to move around on a shitty tripod! lol

I like the black but it pains me that it's Mulberry underneath! Used to look like this, tempted to strip it all off...

Looked well trick with the porsche rims and mirrors. Bargain VR mate, even with the problems. Was the missing piston like a jigsaw in the sump ??

Prefer the Mulberry over the matt black but don't think the seats go with the mulberry IMO.

Tempted to put a VR6 in my GTI but don't know if I can be arsed!

You get more mpg out of your VR6 than I do from my 2.0 8v!!!

Here's mine:

Loving the van and the GTi!

Yeah you couldn't even tell it used to be a piston, the biggest bit was about 5mm square! Properly fucked lol.

Much prefer the look of it when it was shiny, it's been painted but the surface wasn't keyed and I done a test section with thinners, came up lovely. Only problem is its had the side repeaters smoothed and US spec ones put in the bumper, aerial smoothed poorly and I done the Vento swap so it'd need wings, bonnet bumper and roof sprayed ( That and I don't really care what it looks like in the grand scheme of things because it's SO bloody nice to drive!

It's a P reg I think, I'm not at work for the next few weeks so I don't have pictures either.

The car is in the Chingford area. Quite a nice motor, The sills have some bubbling on them but its a very tidy motor.

They guy never drives over 40mph, lol It's never been driven properly.

I loved my vr6,kicked it's head in everywhere and it just took abuse all day long. Bought it off a mate for a grand,l reg in burgundy, was a 5 door but practical having 3 kids. Had coil overs fitted and came with a spare set,had a 6 branch, full dtm stainless and a full stainless spare. Big filter and was chipped, full high line leather,17s,single wiper,de-badged grill etc. and also came with 2 new wings as the wings were rotten under the mouldings but I took the wings off, chopped em and chopped the new ones and welded them both up and then painted the new bits with rattle cans in my shed and bonded the mouldings back on and no one could tell it had been done. Only bad thing was it used to attract a lot of attention from the old bill. Was a quick old beast for what it was tho.

This was just after I got her and gave her a quick detail, ran her for 9 months and apart from cleaning it I never did fuck all apart from abused her and I sold it for £1500
