That 1st one is nice but it needs the ears on top, that 2nd one (with the lamp pod) is a genuine ford one isn't it?

Nice, but YB seems a slightly odd choice for a genuine shell.

Steveboyslim-
I'm off to see the genuine IMSA GTO RS200 that's just entered the country and is having a rebuild to it's previous spec in the next couple of weeks

Something like 40 or so of the actual 200 cars were never completed, Ford hoodwinked the fia by wheeling the completed ones around at lunchtime during the count and had them recounted and eventaully these partial cars were stripped for spares, a lot of these spare tubs got sold off, theres a fella in Scotland with one and a load of panels and moulds

Mike Quaife of gearbox fame built one up from parts as well and painted it silver like his race car, these parts cars are not recognised as genuine rs200s unless they carry the original vin which most dont. I doubt the owners of such cars give a monkeys though what people think, and I would happily own a well built one.

reading rs ford's in colour book, it states that 200 rolling chassis were completed to qualify for homologation and upon recieving fia approval 46 were stripped down as spares.

most of the kit car ones have slightly longer bodies to accommodate the gearbox behind the engine and the engine would sit vertical in the bay, in the real ones or ones built from bits the engine was tilted at an angle to clear the propshaft going to the rear?
would not be that surprised to see a yb in a genuine car tbh due to the cost of a replacement bdt engine- although most owners would not worry about trivialities such as cost pmsl

never seen one with an air duct like that on the back though, must have taken a while to mould - looks strange without the evo ears etc too but looks lower and cleaner because of it, i really like it

i've always wanted one of these (kit obviously lol) and have come so close to owning one on so many occasions but fate never seems to be on my side- ill get there one day im sure

found it!!

In May 2004 I received an email from William Arnold who has been photographing and cataloguing RS200's also, he saw chassis #180 in Northern Ireland bearing the index EIL600. I think this car was given the UK index D443PJN.

William sent me some images taken mid 1998 for the database when it was owned by (RC).

Using some publically available data sources I confirmed the chassis number as SFACXXBJ2CGL00180, it went on to say...

Make: FORD Model: RS 200 4WD Transmission & fuel type: PETROL
Body type: COUPE Engine no.: GL00180 Colour: WHITE Number of gears: No Data Found
Engine capacity: 1803cc First registered: 16/09/1986 Year of manufacture: 1986
CO2 Emissions: UNKNOWN Road Tax (12 Months): Ł180

It goes on to say that the car did originally have the index D443PJN which was changed on 22/2/1988 and then UJT1 which again was changed on 13/7/1988 to D898DPE. I guess that was on the car when it left for Ireland.

There was only 1 previous keeper shown with that change shown on 14/12/1987.

I have spoken to (RC) and he confirms he still has the car.

I am off to see the IMSA car tonight.
I am told that they may do a MK 1 version on an original chassis as the original built spooner car and then a rebuild on the chrome molly space framed car which is what the car was rebuilt with after it was crashed putting the driver in hospitial.

Is this not the same as those Escort cosworth built in up from shells? They aren't considered genuine cars?

I should have expected you would know all about it. Geoff gave me a ring to see if we wante to feature it in Classic Ford. Needless to say we bit his arm off.
