its all about knowing what to look 4. slx is entry level stuff, but good quality, buy a group set like that then just replace/upgrade when bits ware out.

no point blowing a Shit load of cash on stuff that's only marginally better.

the only issue with cheaper stuff is weight really but that won't b 2 much of a issue for the type of riding your doing.

personal i would buy the frame first it will mean you can make a educated decision when buying groupset (bottom bracket size/head set size)

I am a bit of a bottler tho Tev but i think thsts cos I don't have a lid lol will get one.. it does fit in the car but often ride with a friend so a 2 bike rack would be good.. any recommendations for a cheap one ?

Oh and thanks for the offer re: Chase. It's appreciated..

ive always loved cycling, used to do alot of mtb in epping. nothing heavy just some steep hills and a few baby jumps, moved on to road bikes when i hit 18 and stayed with them up until i sold my bianchi which was only a year old, that cost £2500 but im just not in the same position now so i cant be spending loads unless i build it up over a few months
I briefly owned a cube acid but sold it as quick as i bought it but now i would really like to get into it alittle more.
ive love to do DH but chicksands would be the closest to me i think and thats a fair trek so cant really see me getting there too often.

m8 we all have to start somewhere, its not bottling it its just a case of learning.

well he offers their just drop.me a pm if n when u fancy it.

as for racks i haven't got a clue bud i had a 3 bike rack n couldn't get used to it the bikes kept moving about, so i opted for a tow bar mounted rack.l

Some fantastic bikes in this thread, must be a lot of talent to go along with them too!

I'm new to trail and downhill riding, but have just upgraded my Boardman hardtail to a 2011 Lapierre Zesty 314.

First ride out with it is tomorrow afternoon, can't wait

There is my DH bike :

I'm pretty much new in the DH world, my thing is still cross-country, but I find quite relaxing not having to suffer during hillclimbs ! And since I live less than 1 hour from the Alps, I guess I had no excuse not to buy a DH bike !

My old bike

Chopped it in and bought a Carbon hard tail. Easy to ride, but miss the FSR too.

Loving the 223 mate!

I recently got into dh and it's bloody good fun.

Went to llangollen for the BDS, that track is fookin steep.

I bought a specialized pitch comp in end of season sale, love it to bits! It allows me to do some xc when I fancy a simple ride or hit the dh trails and it's more than capable of handling them.

Just wanted to share a picture of my DH bike. I'm a cross-country man but decided to start with DH this year, and I must say its quite cool. And the fact that I live less than 1 hour from the Alps gives me no excuse I think

A small vid of last weekend (not Alps but some mountain around) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi99F...&feature=share

Cheers !
