Default Gave the S1 a clean today.

After leaving it in a right state from Classic Ford show weekend, I decided to give it a clean out and got carried away. I hadn't even emptied any of the camping gear out of it and there was KFC bags and empty brew cups in there as well as tissues from my never ending runny nose (developed a cold conveniently)!

Cheers Jim and James.

Jim. These are only 7x16 as the wider wheels hit the coilovers. I keep thinking about swapping them for some 17s but I can't make my mind up.

AJC, you can't call me bufty!!

You're a far bigger bufty than me!

The car was stuck on the drive and I'd have got it dirty driving it somewhere to take pictures so I just took some there! I might get some tomorrow.

I used to use it once a week until I knocked a big end out. It taken a while but it's getting back to the point where I like driving it again through one thing or another. It's out about 2, maybe 3 times a month at the moment. Maybe a bit more once it's mapped.

I think I just dumped it on the stand as I was a bit rough after excess alcohol abuse the Saturday night! I didn't get to see as much of the show as I'd have liked!

I ran a 14.4 at 104 with a reaction time of a doddering old git. Lights changed before I'd even got my foot of the brake from staging.

It's been on the 6 spoke MO's for about 3 years now Paul! Keep thinking of ditching them for 17" 6 spoke MO's

Thanks for the comment people. It's getting ready for a tidy up in places so thats on the long term to do list. Short term is to get the mapping finished and try and stop the massive torque steer under hard acceleration!

Daz yours torque steers bad? Mine does not at all really?

I don't know the s1 suspension set up but on my escort bottom arms I got rid of the bushes for spherical bearing Rose joint (I think thats the name) and it totally transformed the car!

Used to pull all over the road now it barely tries!

Jim, it's adjustable everything apart from top mounts! TCA's are rose jointed and the only bushes it has got are polyurethane. It has got a Quaife ATB diff and to be fair, this issue has only started since I had it apart for the engine so I think it just needs a geometry check. I've been around the suspension at the front and nothing has any play in it.

I got Danny at Adrenaline to set it up years ago and it was a hell of a lot better. Pulled straight under hard acceleration. before then it was an absolute pig. Now it drives straight but pulls like a bitch under hard acceleration. I think the diff is being unsettles slightly too. I had to fight it up the strip at Pod last week end but it still pulled straighter up there than it does on the road. If it's raining it's totally impossible to keep it straight. I'm talking 3rd and 4th gear too!

Daz mine was the same soon as the boost came in on the STD bottom arms it would launch you across the second lane, over taking in the wet was horrendous nearly been off the road a couple of times

The atb IMO is bad for the torque steer, after driving a focus rs a little while back, boot it in second and its as if the diff tries to put the power to one wheel then changes it to the other then finally sorts itself out, its horrid!

Thanks for the offer Gus but you're a hell of a long way away from me! If I was to get some 17s they'd be new MO's again or TH's. I've got a thing for MO's! I need specific offsets though to clear the coil overs and the wheel arches. Tyres wise I'm on eagle F1's which are 215/40/16.It'd probably look a bit better if I went down to a 195 but I like the grip! I'd like to squeeze another half inch of wheel under the arches but I'll have to make some careful measurements and calculations to make it all fit.

Sticky, just for you! Not the best pictures though.

I had to sell the 5 spokes as the offset wasn't big enough to keep the tyres off the springs. They'd make an irritating humming noise at slow speed as the spring was resonating! After checking back, I did the swap in 2007!

And then one of it sat on the Datapost wheels.

And some after it had just been detailed.

You're not wrong there Jim. It's fucking terrifying to say the least. It's better now I'm on stiffer springs than before. I've gone up 100lb all round and it seems less prone to trying to kill me. Next step is a geometry check and then go from there. It has always had the ATB diff in it (well for the last 8 years) but when Danny set it up there was hardly any noticeable torque steer apart from if you hit a bad bump which unsettled the diff.

They cost a few quid and they came with the slicks on them last used in 198/6. These were the narrowest set used on the Datapost car at 7.5 inches. The other set that was available at the time went back to Datapost Car 44.

Currently it's sat on ET30 wheels.

The thing is I would want to try the car out on the right set of wheels. E.G. buy the right offset (will need around ET24 to add another half inch of width) then I'm unsure what width tyres I'd use. Once I got the wheels I'd want to drive it for a few hours to get a feel of how it drives/handles/grips and if the arches are at risk of being ripped off when cornering! I'm either going for a 17x7 or 17x7.5 wide wheel around ET22-ET24 ish.

I'll be at National Day for definite but I'm not sure about other shows yet.

The MH600 Datapost wheels are about ET12 and ET8! Thats why it's never been driven on the MH's.

By swapping the rims around I managed to get them to about ET15 and ET18 but they're now odd widths.
