Default Gave The Mondy A Good Clean - Rust

Gave the mondeo its first proper clean for a while today. whilst cleaning it, i noticed winter hasnt been kind to it. the few spots of rust it had, one on the rear quater, couple around the rear window, and one on the roof, seem to be getting worse. on the plus side, i havnt found any new spots, and underneath, its clean as a whistle, but its starting to show its age, so it may need some paint soon

still cleaned up well

But the rust patches stand out on closer inspection

cheers mate. thats why i wont sell it though, because i will miss it, plus, with everything ive done to it, i know it like the back of my hand, and know its solid, and reliable, and for what id get for it, id find it very difficult to get anything as good/nice for the money

but then i have a dillema, how much more money do i put into it ?, as far as bodywork goes, before its pointless, and i might aswel sell it, and use the money id spend on the bodywork, plus what id get for it, to buy something else.

and im very tempted to take the winter wheels off, and put my EsCos rims on, but i think its still a bit early weather wise

Decisons decisions

yes mate, it was parked in the pits

neil from fast ford was going to do his own little stand at croft for a couple of cars. the mondy was going to be on it, but neil never got round to sorting the stand out, had a lot of time working on his fiesta, as it killed a hub when we were on track in it. so i just parked it in the pits as i had a pit pass.

Fiddy,

From a Mancunian to a Scouser, keep it mate, the amount of work and effort you have put in to your car it would be criminal to get rid.
if you try and get rid now, you might as well pull your pants down an bend over.
A dealer would give you peanuts and selling privately would be just as bad.

Get the little bits of rust sorted on the offending panels and resprayed.
You know it's a solid car, keep it running and keep on top of it.

If there are guy's on here restoring 25 yr old cosworth's, there's plenty of life in your Mondy mate.

id like to do what you did mate, take it off the road, and get the whole car painted. but that in itself is a dilemma, because one, id be tempted to get a colour change, to flint grey or polaris grey, and two, if i did that, i wouldnt want to use it as an every day car, with wor lass taking it shopping etc.

just using the same polish as always fella, autoglym

cheers mate. it doesnt need restoring, for a nearly 14 year old mondeo, its actually in very good condition. its had a bit of paint over the years, but the panels are all original, so are the arches, and its never been welded, nor does it need any. its honestly solid as a rock, and mechanically, it runs like a swiss watch, drives, starts, goes, and stops, exactally how it should, so its defo got plenty of life left in it, its one of the cleanest, most original MK2's about. just bodywork wise, its starting to show its age, few scratches here and there, stone chips, and the rust spots really do let it down, because its a clean and honest old thing.

its just its getting to the point now, like a cross roads, where i either spend money on it, or i just stay on top of it and drive it.

was at my mates bodyshop the other day. he said he could fit new arches, and paint it, for a grand, or if i wanted a colour change, he could do a full one, inside the doors, dorr shuts, everything, for Ł1400. but if i go down that route, i wouldnt even like to add up how much id have in it all together. lets just say i could have a very nice ST200 LTD, or a nice ST220

I really like the look of that. Not many 4dr saloons around. Plus the Mk2 looks so much nicer and sleaker than the Mk3.

If there's rust on the underbody, make sure you get the brake lines at the rear (some sort of t-piece near chassis rail) checked. They have a terrible habit of rotting through there and there's nothing worse than the middle pedal going to the floor...
