Default My big brake converison WIP for the nova

Got the nova out of the garage and got the brakes mocked up roughly how I will fit them now, just need to check a few things first before I make the proper brackets.

Car out of garage sat with the corsa, first time they have ever been sat together like that, awwww, how cute, lol

The disks and calipers im using:

This is the bracket template im working with at the moment, you can see how much further it sits the caliper in than the original one would have

This is how the caliper and disk look on the car

Clearance under a 16" wheel, LOADS of room!

The disks are 300mm wilwood ones, its something Im putting together from leftovers, the disks came free with a set of calipers we bought for our clio mk1 trackday car and the calipers are ones Rob has had lieing around for ages so I swapped them with him for a couple of hundred quids worth of calibra turbo bits I had spare, so the only actual cash it owes me so far is 30 quid to get the disks bored out to clear the spigots on the car.

It does go quite well but its a lot heavier than you would think a nova would be, its around the 1100kg mark, so about the same weight as a stripped out 3 door would be.

Yeah the porsche 4 pots (and the 6 pots off the top spec models) are quite a popular aftermarket conversion

Thanks, its a bit rougher round the edges than it looks in pics though TBH, not that I really care much on the looks anyway, more interested in what it drives like TBH!

Ive got standard nova uprights with hubs from a calibra 5 stud which have been machined to fit inside standard nova bearings.
The front has no drive on my car, so the cv's are only there to stop the bearings coming apart, they dont see any load.

Ive got some brembos and they are so much thicker that they would require the disk sitting in too far to be possible on a nova without going to a massively different offset of wheel, which is why I didnt use them myself, but if its on a cossie its a pretty easy fit etc.

What car is it for? If its your nova I think you will be dissapointed!

If you can be bothered to pop down to somerset one weekend I will show you if you like?

Oh thats the end of that idea then! Their on a nova, just put evo brembos on my cossie and assumed it may be as easy on my nova, obviously not! Just after a cheap tidy brake set up for it.Thanks for that il take you up on that offer if im ever around your way.

The thing making it so much harder on the nova is the 49mm offset wheels compared to the cossies 35mm

That 14mm difference means the spokes are 14mm closer to the calipers.

If you go and look on your cossie, I bet you dont have 14mm to spare.

RX7 calipers are cheaply available secondhand and are pretty streamlined, i suspect you'll still have issues even then though.

Its a real PITA having these massive offset wheels, and even more so having the steering arm etc in a place that means if you try and move the disk a long way in board you cant!

Hello, interesting thread as usual chip.

Ps. the chubby brembo's can fit...

A better view of the spoke clearance, they have 5mm spacers but could have got away with 3mm (just had 5's lying around) but add the extra thickness of the bells means the wheels stick out slightly (approx 8mm if using the 3mm spacers) but stick with 6/6.5 wide vaux fitment wheels and you'll get away with it with much arch hassle

Chip is correct, they're chunky little f*ckers!...

Nicely done, your disks must be *JUST* clearing the upright on the inside edge.

Do you get any arch clearance issues with your wheels sticking out that far?
Looks like you have have just about got away with it TBH

Thats actually slightly better than I thought they would be clearance wise, and I think the tiny bit of extra width actually reall suits it visually.

If you had used the RX7 calipers im on about, you wouldnt have needed spacers at all

Those Brembo's look like the same ones fitted to Porsches,Fiat and 406 coupes aswell as some range rovers.

I love the look of the white nova, use to be a well known local car when Stevie had it years ago.

Amazingly good looking wheel considering its just what vauxhall put on the sporty vectra as standard!

Vauxhall have done quite a few cool wheels over the years, the cesaro being the other classic that springs to mind, my mrs liked them so much she got me to make up adaptors to fit them to her clio:

I'm not sure where they came from exactly, theyre part of a kit I bought barely used second hand, don't think they're available anymore!

Cheers, I've kind of restored it alittle back to it's former glory and added a few other parts like quaife diff, leather rs turbos recaros, 4 pots etc. I've also got to know Stevie a bit over the last couple of years, he wired it in and I went back last year and got the new exhaust made by him and a few other touches, can't praise the guy enough!

Here's the build thread if you've got a minute or two!

Yeah it's close mate! Arch clearance isn't a bigger issue than normal with the likely contact on full lock. I didn't like the extra width/stance at first but don't mind so much now!

St's look good on the motor and yeah, deceivingly similar to mo's!
