If you're going to get a pleco, make sure you have BIG tank - they can grow to 12" long!

Also, angel fish will eat tetras when they get a bit bigger (i.e. big enoguh for them to fit in it's mouth!)

You got me started now... I may not know anything about cars, but fish im in! Here are some old and new pictures of what i have got and had.

I like this one lol

Then turned it into a crab tank

Have to many pictures and loads more tanks Cant help myself! Got a 6 foot tank ready for a set up and cant wait!! Need cash though as marine is costing more than the sierra at the moment!

When buying a pleco dont get a big one, go for a bristle nose as the big ones will do more pooing than cleaning! Also angels are very nice but can take over the tank when coming close to breeding, I had this and lost fish from nasty angels.

DO NOT BUY A OSCAR THINKING IT WILL STAY SMALL!!!! Alot of pet shops will sell you them but they will grow VERY fast and big (12inch ish). They will eat anything they can fit in there mouth unless you get fish like sliver dollars or tinfoil barbs. (Which both grow big look at picture one and two)

Had this setup since october 2007, initial setup costs were high but it pretty much runs itself now.

Well when i did my marine i waited about 4-6 weeks before i added snails, but with tropical it can be about 5 days or so, If you get it right. I just used to wait till all my tests were right and put in hardy fish for a start to get the cycle going though.

When setting up leave everything running like fish are already in there as this will start a cycle going. Also you can add stuff that will speed up the process of the cycle. When added fish keep doing water changes till the water levels stays at 0 (ammonia and nitrite, can do other tests)

As for the oscar i think its a great fish to go with. Mine you, you cant put alot with them as such but what you can put with them look fantastic (when fully set up) There not like other fish, i find there kinda like a dog... that you dont walk. You can feed it by hand or get it to swim though hoops for food. Mine use to jump out the water and take food from my hand or follow my hand around.

TIP: dig up some worms in your back garden and feed him with them and they will love them, Mine did (If he dont eat them dont feed him them again)

You can put a ping pong ball in and some will "play" with it but mine never use too.

If you have the room look at getting tinfoil barbs as they liven tanks up also silver dollars and loads of pretty cichlid fish. Remember though oscars can be nasty and kill alot of other fish.

Whlie i remember they dont like plants, well i have had 4 oscars and they all rip plants to bits. They will custom there tank to how they want it by moving stones if there not to big.

This is the tank i hope it set up soon (picture from where it came from, not my set up)

Never thought ill say all that on passion ford!

well depends on what you know everyone buys all the crap they don`t need.

i used to import from all over the world still have a license.

its a hobby that needs alot of reading
unfortunatley the big one has gone!

i was supposed to be moving and broke it down with the intension of building a 16x8x8 foot tank unfortunatley planning permission was denied on the plot i was after so am back in the hunt

Marine tanks are very simple to maintian in this day and age
right light right temp and a regular water change are the basics of marine keeping the only filter you need is rock and a skimmer!

if you ever need any help of thoughts give me a shout mate

that set up would cost you 60k if done by a shop i did it for under 2k!
built the tank myself with the aid of friends for lifting at one time i had over 3000 liter system, lol.

much like this hobby its adictive

I've been through loads of tropical setups, various fish etc but finally really enjoying a mix of lake Malawi ciclids. I've got 17 malawi's, 2 cat fish and a bristle nose plec. You can get some really stunning looking malawi's, I went for them because the colours seem closer to marine compared to most tropicals. I made the mistake of not having enough at first, they'd fight badly and kill each other off. Since having 10+ they've been great.

I'm really wanting a marine setup at the moment and funnily enough was almost about to buy something a couple of days ago. Trouble is two tanks in the lounge is a bit much.

The top one is a Congo Tetra.

The Pleco is just a straight forward Pleco (plecostomus plecostomus)

The bottom one is a striped headstander.

The Angelfish is really nice, half black Angels used to be very rare as it's quite hard to breed them but they're becoming more common these days.

If you can get some reed type plants (vallis would be good) your headstander will appreciate it, that's their natural habitat.

Cheers,

do you know what the one with yellow on it is?

The angle is quite small, will it grow larger like the adult angles you see in the shop or is it a different breed?
