Default DSLR questio...

Hi,

I am thinking about to buy an dslr cam, took a look around the web and found the canon eos 1000d to be a really good one and is avail at a decent price.

Whats your opinion about this, someone use it?

Also, what kind of lens is a good alround to start with?
The eos came with a 18-55 or as body only.

make sure you practise with the basic first, with me I wanted to know the features and what each thing did first along with practise in taking good shots/focus. I know im going to getting the next lens, but for the moment I can work with being closer to the subject if need be.
