New pics of WIP
Been swapping to a 2wd manifold for my GT30. Done a lot of work on it the last few days, whilst waiting for new gaskets and nuts etc.
It all started as my oil drain split and the turbo had to come off to get it off (it's a twat on a 4x4 manifold)
Had the 2wd one in the shed and thought bugger it - see if it fits
It did, just by grinding off the heater matrix pipe lug.
Still got a couple of things to sort out yet though :-
A) The heatshield needs finishing off, but I was determined to get the standard one on there (albeit fairly modified) almost there though
B) The intercooler pipe needs shortening or at worse, sort out something with the airbox to move it over slightly.
C) If something needs done with the airbox then I'll have to fit my other brand new roose turbo-airbox hose (the one on it is cut to fit)
D) Oil drain needs sorting but have a solution on route (hopefully it'll work )
E) Turbo damper - I'll probably get an RS500 horseshoe one with a spec r gadget but having trouble finding one. I dont want a pony bailey type one. I have manufactured an underneath type brace for the time being, which may work but undecided as yet.
Things I have done so far...
Made a lower heatshield for the wiring and steering uj's along the chassis rail (made from a brand new porsche exhaust heatshield ) This took a while, paper template, then cardboard then onto the heatshield itself.
Had the manifold shotblasted today, no pics though
Getting the heatshield to fit and look decent has been a mission. Still needs titivating and a few more bits of heatproof material added yet (which I'm going to wait till the new exhaust is sorted as the downpipe may be different)
It's getting there, hopefully the gaskets, nuts and oil drain turn up tomorrow.
Then need to get the exhaust done, get a new transfer chain, oh and fit my new wheels that I got the other day Get my stack sorted
Maybe get it mapped as I'm a bit scared of this msd chip at the mo, fuelling is ok, but thats not what we need to worry about is it
Then.....
Finish off my rear brake project, start my fuel tank project
ahhhh it never ends!!

Right, I love these long evenings
Got the stuff I ordered from Matt Lewis - exhaust gaskets, thermostat housing pipe, manifold nuts and a new lambda sensor. All arrived in 2 days.
Now got a pic of the shotblasted manifold
Started to build it up
Thermostat housing all painted up
Pic showing ground off boss for the heater matrix bracket and the actual pipe with the bracket cut off.
Pipe on and new gaskets fitted
Painted engine mount heatshield and fitted the wiring protection.
First part of manifold fitted (what a twat!!! )
Slight mod already
Trousers on
Turbo on (crap pic was dark!!)
So next up is to see how far I can move the comp housing round again to help with the cooler hose / airbox issue. It cant go much further only got about 5mm gap between it and the head.
Fit airbox and cut cooler hose to fit, might have to move the airbox over as far as I can - if so I'll have to use the new roose turbo to airbox hose.
Sort the turbo coolant pipes out, then onto adjusting the turbo heatshield to fit better and add some more porsche foil to it to cover areas I've had to cut away due to the manifold.
The heatshield fitting was the key to this part of the project, as if it didn't fit (or if I couldn't make it fit more like) then the 4wd manifold would have to go back on as I hate that waffley foil stuff on display in the engine bays!!
I am still waiting for a turbo oil drain to turn up and see if it fits (can be made to fit )
THEN, I need a turbo damper - has to be spec r type with rs500 horseshoe damper. So I'm on the lookout for one please

Right done some more on it....
Had an ice cream, 2 quid 99 with flake
Made another piece of heatshield
Fitted
This has been like this for sometime, but thought I'd show ya. I CANNOT stand wonky heatshields, really spoils an engine bay IMO. M6 ally rivnuts FTW
All fitted
Back of the actual heatshield not finished yet, ready for fitting my modified magnex once I get it done.
Point to note though, I was under the car fitting the speedo cable. I can confirm that the downpipe (mongoose) would definitely need lengthening as it fouls the bottom of the gearbox. One inch would do. As I'm fitting the magnex, I'll get that one done at the same time.
