As an example I think the Roger Clark Motorsport car and AG Focus are maybe a few seconds a lap quicker than a oldish touring car round certain cicuits and lets face it they are both FAR superior to a old Rs500 race car.
Its all to do with the grip

A current BTCC car would murder a RS500 round a circuit I believe.

Rallycross lol
Old touring cars rule, no doubt about that but just because the latest stuff is mostly fwd and low power ( in comparison ) the racing is still very tight and far from a one horse race.

I don't really care what cars are in it, its how the drivers get the most out of it that I enjoy. Same with the older clips, the RS500's were awesome bit the E30's are still an awesome car to watch and listen to, infact sound wise IMO they were the better sounding cars

I thought the BMW's were over the 300hp mark tbh, something like 325hp although when we were in Germany the ones in the museum apparently ran 375hp ! no idea what series they were raced in though.

I thought the E30's were 2.3 and 2.5, the latter being the big power one.
I haven't watched the whole of that clip but I know in one of them it does mention the Sytner car being over 300hp, no idea on capacity though.

Old Fords Never Die
Great old vidoes. I remember going to the birmingham superprix, racing throught the streets. One of the support races was the touring cars. Think there were about 8 RS500's been raced. They sounded awesome on full chat. Robb Gravett, Andy Rouse, Larence Bristow and the legend Tim Harvey, were just a few of the then top drivers
